There are certain characters you cannot use when you create a new character. Buy a deed and have a GM append _@ at the end to show that it is a Trademarked name.. No one can copy your name ever....
Sounds great except for looking like complete shit. No way I'd want to see special characters in player names, ever.
My thought was that this would be a no code solution. Not familiar enough with RunUO to know if names can be put on a unique list so that no one else can select them. The player would not get to choose the special character, but rather us a single character as a trademark, any name with that trademark sign would be recognized as unique, no one else could duplicate the name without GM intervention
There is already a restriction on certain names and if I recall correctly it's just a simple list that RunUO uses to deny it. Other shards have gone fully unique name, a concept I did actually like. As much as I like the idea, I don't really like restricting people's options for character names that much.
Unique names would be good, I'd vote it. Not special characters though. If a name is already duplicated the longest active account takes it.
Naw, there's too many characters from works of fiction out there that people like to role play and whatnot...or simply like to use. I am against taking away a player's ability to pretend that he's a certain wizard from a book just because someone else got there first. I vote against this.
Exactly Lightshade, I would be fine being the only Sturm on the shard, but I also don't want to stifle anyone else's fantasy. Such as snap dragon's fantasy of being a member of Adventure Time by naming %50 of her characters after us.
Guild tags are already a very reliable feature to prevent someone from taking your identity. Just make sure to turn on guild tags and promote the guild tag along with your char name. I'M BLAISE FROM ^T !!
