First off, i noticed that equipment does not state its quality (before it breaks etc) without probably using arms lore. Someone said arms lore also added to dexxer damage but i think he was confused with lumberjacking on axes? Would it be a ok idea to make my exec axe char like this? ~ Swords-100 Tactics-100 Lumberjacking-100 Healing-100 Anatomy-100 Resisting spells-100 Magery-30 (for recalling only) Hiding-70 Or should i switch Hiding out for Arms lore? Im a bit unsure about this one. Thanks in advance. -Abizboah.
Arms Lore does not impact damage. Its only combat use is part of what's needed to Disarm a player. Your template looks good. I'd go a bit higher on the Magery side, unless you plan on exclusively using scrolls to recall.
I used to be an avid hider myself, but I've since been converted that it is not as good a tactic for survival as you might think it is. Hiding is a skill of convenience, but not a good survival one. If you happen to survive a PK attack from hiding, it is only because the PK wasn't rolling with tracking or somebody who could track. In all honesty in our day of UO, you have approximately -5 (yes that's negative 5) to decide if you are going to stay or flee. If you haven't recalled by the time the reds can target you, you're either crispified or your the recipient of a large amount of luck. Over the long term, hiding probably will only save you from PvM monsters, and minimally at that. I would recommend that you raise your magery to 40-50 so you can cast reflect with a scroll/regs and you'll find it much more beneficial. You might also try tracking might actually be useful, and just regularly check tracking every few minutes to see if any players are lurking nearby. As for the Armslore i'm not sure if that is part of a combined skill bonus or not, but I am thinking it isn't. You'd have to check for certain. So go with Magery/Tracking or Magery/Med
Thank you guys for the comments, im not exactly used to pre aos anymore I used to play puremage in aos+ for years but always been a dexxer before that because i couldnt really pvp that well due to still having a 586 or something for a pc. Hiding used to be a good tactic to get the first shot in on a pack of mobbers, you'd just outsprint them, hide just beyond the screenborder, lock on and dump one to near death or death, then do the same again. I already considered just running as a dexxer, i mean its not like i can lock on as one anyway. Using 'some' magic was already in my mind aswell yeah, just not offensive spells. I dont exactly know how magic reflect works on this shard, back when it was the main spell for pvpers, everyone used scrolls and pots and thats it. (you had scrolls for higher speed casting, and scrolls that gave you half dmg but did also half dmg on the opponent, dont remember the names but it was on xuo 10 years ago or so) But ok ill take out hiding, up magery a bit more, maybe to 40 or 50. And the remainder ill still have to think about, how high is the chance to track with 50% tracking? Not that great is it.. hm 50% hiding isnt exactly something to rely on either, what about armslore anyway, i mean it will be handy to see if my equipment isnt about to explode.. Still need some logic there from you guys if you'd please.
I generally run 70 Magery/30 Tracking on all my dexxers. This is enough magery to get Reflect up, have stronger gheals and never ever fail Recall. 30 Tracking is perfect for the footchase. http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/41980 is my LJ.
Just keep working on your magery until it's GM, you'll be glad that you did. Macro it up to at least the 60's or 70's then take your time with it. It is unfortunately one of those skills that is very difficult to play without. Having magery is not an absolutely must have, but it does make your playtime here more survivable and time efficient.
naa, im not going for the hybrid, im going for the full dex specialism man. 11 INT is enough, i really only want to use recall and the rest with pots. I dont think magic reflection is worth more to me than swinging every second and having lowest bandage time. - I dont want to get any higher magery than 50%, but preferably lower even. Its just recalling, no gheals etc i dont care about that gh / gc pots and bandies are enough for healing. Tbh ive never actively used pathfinding on any uo shard ive played before, and wouldnt know why i'd use it on a dexxer above something that actually helped in combat. Atm im doing some snooping to gm to up my dex, its around 70 already, going for 100 probably, cause i want my str as high as possible for the bonusses. lets see on 225-11 thats 114 str prolly. should be plenty.
Haob, if you plan on PvM then 50 magery might be ok, however, if you should run into some PK's you're going to be at a serious disadvantage. You won't have magic reflect, or if you do it will have to be from a scroll, which can get to be a pain in the a$$ over the long haul, same goes for recall, you want recall to cast without fail ALL the time as you won't get a sceond chance if a PK or group of them get the jump on you. If you run with stats of 100/25/100 then the Mindblast spell is simply going to DESTROY you, I mean that it has not been nerfed on this shard as it was on OSI shards , it is dishing out the crazy five finger death punch damage. Being a fifth circle spell it gets cast rather quickly and the damage is to say the least ....insane if you don't have balanced stats. Having a low mana pool is going to be a detriment as well, you want to be able to have a little in reserve for that emergency Greater Heal spell and a Recall if you have to get out of Dodge quickly. It's your character, play it out as you will but many would agree that Magery simply is one of those skills you should have at least in the 60's or 70's to play this game without the frustration of scrolling everywhere you have to go and getting ganked by a group of PK's when you could have simply hit your Recall macro and punched out of the danger zone. Just my two cents and hopefully helps in the prevention of a seriously frustrating face-raping by a PK or group of them after you've farmed up a few thousand gold and found that sweet power or vanq weapon and thought about banking after killing one or two more monsters, only to be left grey screened, empty handed and pounding your keyboard while screaming WHYYYYYYYYYY, NO NO NO NO, YOU MOTHER%^^*^&^&$%^^%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Playing, hope to see you out there
Yeah, 100 is max for any stat. Having fewer than 50 in any single stat, is asking to get completely wrecked by Mind Blast. The damage is half of the difference between your highest and lowest stat. So at 100/25/100, you're looking at 37.5 damage and PKs aren't the only ones casting this on you. Most casting mobs will hit you with this too and without reflect, you're going to be in trouble. Add to that, lower magery and the cooldown timer on cure potions. Not saying it can't be done, but you're asking for an exercise in frustration.
i dont care man let me make what i want to make. If 100 is max stat then ill have 100s/100d/25i Im not playing this game anymore to compete anyway, and why would i care if theres a pk lol, i used to be one and a very effective one at that 10 years ago myself. If someone kills me ill just walk back to a healer, get my stuff and go hunt somewhere else, or get to be part of a guild or something to pvm or gank with. Also theres something against mindblast you know? Its called a bronze plate set. p.s. i do concussion blows with my axe so that also helps vs spell damage.
No one is telling you what you can or cannot do. We just want you to understand that imbalanced stats such as you're intent on, wind up being very detrimental to survival in the field. PKs and monsters both cast Mind Blast and from the perspective of a PK, once you've been identified as "Mind Blast Bait" expect that to happen continually. The trade-off of giving yourself a bit more Int/Mana and Magery is having a better ability to heal damage and escape safely (Recall). Again, no one is telling you you cannot do what you want, we're just trying to help based on our experience in this era.
Im going for pure dex, every playstyle has its ups and downs, maybe ill be a tiny bit more subs against mindblast, most people cast flamestrike by default so i doubt its a problem. And by the time they made a mindblast they are probably going to have to spam heal not to get smashed by my damage output combined with concussion blows.
Bronze Plate Set? That's not going to help here Haob. Mindblast not Flamestrike is the first spell that gets cast on you 9 out of 10 times here and it's simply going to destroy you, cast by another player or a creature. Your concussion blows are only going to knock a few points of mana off a mage, that is if you actually hit, as wrestling on this shard makes it VERY hard to hit mages and when you do, most if not all mages wear barbed leather which gives them around 37 AR so get used to doing around 4-10 damage on most hits, this is easily healed by a quick chug of a GH potion, so no mana used there. You seem to have your mind made up, so I wish you the best, hope things work out for you.
You seemingly mistook what I said earlier about Tracking, as a reference to Pathfinding (which is where your character walks to where you clicked). Tracking let's you pick a target (in pvp, I track someone I'm in a fight with), so they can't just run off screen and hide so easily. If you're mostly PvM, running 30-50 poisoning would be nice to help you tear through mobs faster. Poison a katana and get the mob poisoned, switch to the axe to clean up. Most people absolutely don't come out with Flamestrike. Mind Blast is the go-to spell because of its damage formula and the fact that many people don't balance for it. Believe me, I wrote a whole guide on playing without Magery. We're just trying to help you understand what the greatest hurdles will be.
Ill take those hurdles, i dont mind. Like i said before and will say again, im not playing ultima online anymore to compete, if i did i would play puremage.
Armor and weapon wear - You can wear your armor and weapon over night and then look at this profile for example http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/81116. It will list your items durability and wear. Type your characters name in the right upper text box and hit enter. Skills - it's easy to retrain so try different skills to suit your play style. I liked having poisoning but most rather have it on a utility character. If you like killing the undead, poison is rather worthless.
Yeah, i also thought about using a maul because those things completely destroy stamina wich is a nice side effect but i rather go with axes for the damage bonus from lj and the concussion blows are also welcome. I noticed being able to see my equipment's durability on that page yeah, thanks. Still not sure what to get, tracking does seem useful in keeping a arrow on people i admit but isnt there anything else that works for a dexer? I thought parrying but i think thats only for shields and not for passive blocks.. Perhaps i should just get the tracking..
Smaller sheilds block better here. Large heavy shields have less of a chance to block but increase AR. So a buckler will block much better than a heater. I don't know of many here that use parry due to one handed weapon damage rates and only two handed weapons have special attack blows. Parry is only for shields.
