So my "Real" animal taming is 25 but i guess my stat bonus animal taming is 33 my question is: do i need to hit "real" 100 to max the skill? or does 100 = 100 regardless? so in this case, 92 should = 100 but does it work as well as a true 100?
Your real skill is the points out of your allotted 700 you have invested in a skill. Your shown skill is modified by stat bonuses. Say you are a mage with 25 real skill but your high intellect allows you to perform like you have 30 skill. This means you will cast spells more successfully because of your stats. As a skill approaches 100 the amount that stats help it diminishes. in the last 99.x-100.0 your stats stop helping altogether and your real skill and shown skill will be the same. In most cases in the game your shown skill is all that matters when asking how well you will perform the skill. The exception is when there are hard caps that prevent an action. For instance you must have 80.0 real anatomy and 80.0 real healing before resurrecting someone with bandages. Even if your stats make it look like you have 81 healing and 81 anatomy, you won't succeed until they reach 80.0 real. Welcome to UO:R. While true in principle, this example is incorrect. You can resurrect with 80 shown anatomy. I've never tried with healing. Some hard caps go off shown skill, some go off displayed. Similar to broken slayer weapons, the only way to know for sure is to attempt the action or ask someone who has.
The only "real" skill used in calculation that I can think of is Lockpicking. There was some quirk with it in which you could only attempt some high-level chests if your real skill (spent points) was greater than some value like 95.0 or something. Stats only help make up the gap between your spent points and 100.0, so as Mes said, stats will never help you get that last 0.1 or 0.2, even if you chugged a potion and have 120 strength or dexterity.
Hey Mes, If your anatomy is 100 could it be possible to Rez someone with a lower than 80 healing? I say that, because I swear I rez'd a few folks when I was in my lower 70's in healing (real shown). Also, I killed one of my chars last night in my tower, and used macro'd 2 others healing him when they were around 73 and they both regularly would rez the dead dude. Just curious if there are other "factors"...
That shouldn't happen...60 healing/anatomy should be the benchmark for curing poison and 80 healing/anatomy for ressing by bandage. But that's theorycraft, it's always possible you encounter something different in game. If that was the case Telamon would be the only one to help understand it.
