I'd like some clarification on retames on skill levels, I'm clearly doing something wrong. So I'm basing a lot of my info on these assumptions: Animal NameHit PointsDamageSkill 1st Skill 2nd Skill 3rd Skill 4th Bull (Ribeye) 50-64 4-9 71.1 77.1 83.1 89.1 First scenario: Characters: Tamer A (100 Skill) Tamer D (75 shown Skill) Tamer A tames a bull (named 'Ribeye') then releases Tamer D attempts to tame Ribeye (who now has a 77.1 minimum skill level, correct?) Issue: - When tamer D attempts to tame Ribeye they will be unable to gain skill and will be unable to successful tame Ribeye. However no notification is provided that they will never be able to successfully tame Ribeye. From some conversations I've been having I've come to believe that this occurs because the initial check happens on the base required skill level of Ribeye (which would be 71.1), which is way Tamer D doesn't receive the message stating they have no chance. Solution: - The fix for this, I think, would be a check against base required skill, then another check against retamed skill. Second scenario, unknown causes: Characters: Tamer A (100 Skill) Tamer B (100 Skill) Tamer C (100 Skill) Tamer D (90 Skill) Tamer A tames a bull (named 'Ribeye') then releases Tamer B tames a bull (named 'Ribeye') then releases Tamer C tames a bull (named 'Ribeye') then releases Tamer D attempts to tame Ribeye (who now has a 89.1 minimum skill level, correct?) Issue: - Tamer D attempts to tame Ribeye however is unable to successfully tame or gain skill. This scenario is perplexing because while I have the sufficient skill necessary to tame Ribeye a successful tame doesn't happen. My first theory was that it had been tamed too many times, however when an animal has been tamed too many times and you attempt to tame it, you get a message stating that this animal has had too many previous owners and no taming attempt is made. I'd like to get a further understanding of the mechanics of what is happen that makes this happen. Solution: - *shrug*
Macro looks like: Animal tame wait for target absolute target pause 13 secs. I let it run from 2am pst yesterday/this morning until about 1pm this afternoon. Not exactly sure how many attempts that is but seems like more than a reasonable amount of them.
I to am having issues. It's letting me attempt to tame retames that I have no ability to tame or gain off of.
I think that's just how UO has always worked when it comes to retames. It can certainly be very frustrating, especially when people don't rename their pets.
I have also experienced when re-taming bulls, I have no ability to tame that I have not receive notification stating I am not able to tame this. After a good 20 minutes, it was determined I wasn't going to gain skill from either successful or failed attempts
No if you have chance of taming a creature it gives you a msg stating so, and if a creature has been tamed too many times then it also gives you a msg. There shouldn't ever be a situation where you're able to attempt to tame but unable to ever successfully tame.
I meant just with retames. I know that it gives you a message in the other two instances, but I remember this as being an issue on other servers, as well. I believe it also happened on OSI, I managed to get all the way to 92 taming there. I do agree though, it really ought to throw you a message saying you can't do it. I've had a bull that was too high muck up my macros and waist my time far too many times.
That would certainly be handy, but rule of thumb is if no gains in short order, when using retames, kill it and move on. Not sure how it was on OSI but it's never given a message here to indicate that it's a dud for your skill level.
