I could be mistaken, but feel like I have very clear memories of liches sounding exactly like the lich lords here do back when I played between 1998 and 2001. I spent a lot of time in Deceit killing liches with my sliver katanas.

So I submit that I believe the "era accurate" sound for regular liches should be the same as the lich lords.

    From UOfiddler:

"Original" lich sound/current UOR lich lord sounds:
    0x19D liche1.wav
    0x19E liche2.wav
    0x19F liche3.wav
    0x1A0 liche4.wav
    0x1A1 liche5.wav

    Current UOR lich sounds:
    0x3EA liche1.wav
    0x3EB liche2.wav
    0x3EC liche3.wav
    0x3ED liche4.wav
    0x3EE liche5.wav

Not a huge deal, but just seemed odd to me. Some people might like the difference and that is OK. I prefer normal liches to sound as scary as lich lords.

    1) I like the different sounds, because the lich lords have a manic evil laugh which fits. But my opinion doesn't matter.

    2) Considering era-accuracy, can you somehow "proof" that the sounds weren't like they are now? Maybe with old entries or monsterr descriptions. The problem for staff to change something is usually, that they need some kind of objective source as proof.

Just a thought, original era versus newer clients did an have audio overhaul. This is most notable in the music files. I still saybthe remastered mp3 versions are crap compared to original.

I have those originals if anyone wants.

This liche sound issue could indeed be something similar. Developers (especially when taking over a game) freqently destroy the work of the original/previous dev and put "their mark" on something.

Anyway, I assume you swapped in the files you want with Fiddler? :)

I think this could be confirmed just digging into files from Renaissance expansions client installation. I've an installation from OSI client when Renaissance was launched. I'll check.

Yes, it was implemented quite a while ago. One thing I did a LOT of on OSI was kill liches. And now they sound like they did in 1998-2001.
