I'm going to create a dexxer primarily for events. Understands maces has stamina drain and the war hammer specifically has crushing blow. Any benefits to consider for swords for PvM?

Damage output on swords when combined with lumberjacking. Have to use axes of course.

Hmm ok - that's another 100 points. Anyone try both and have some data to backup a recommendation?

Axes are definitely superior in damage output. While I don't have hard data to prove it, the top scorers in events (like NoH) are always the axe wielders.

i have both... and after doing a few lvl 7 maps with a swordsman i think ill go back to using my mace fighter... having a high damage output means very little when you spend 5x more time healing. the mini bosses just hit too hard!

Why would maces make a difference in this case? Just wondering.

Stamina drain makes their attack speed significantly slower. You could easily stand there and take the attacks so less damage per attack but significantly longer time spent attacking.

    @PWGuy

Hey, take a look at the UO:R test server; http://uorforum.com/threads/uor-test-server.1844/

Try out any build you like before investing the time to actually build it on the live server.

You can raise your skills to 100 with easy commands, go out into the world fight some monsters and see which build you enjoy more.

There are also free magical weapons/armor in the test area along with a dummy to practice on.

In certain situations one may seem more viable than the other as well...

for example: my amib ironman char is bladed weapons, because deadly poisoned weps melt certain bosses down very fast, making it more efficient per weapon choice.

If you are hunting monsters that have magery (that can cure themselves) macing would be a more viable winner. Once their stam goes down so does their attack speed, giving you a huge upper hand on the fight.

Macing on pvp toons are fairly interesting.... 2-3 good hits can make a readied stun punch (from opponent) fail because of stam not being high enough. That can help if you're doing any pvp/faction stuff. But macing hybrids have no stun (or concussion) SKILLS, which are way more desired features pvp wise.

for events, i know this seems a little silly, but having archery on top of macing will make your character more viable for Halloween events. If you don't have dedicated healers, being up close won't work for very long during NoH, or Night of Horrors.

What's this char's build look like for you? That will help us supplement skills.

For christmas/easter i'd say macing/tact/anat/heal/music/provo/resist (maybe squeeze magery in somewhere if you're a fan. I am)
For NoH macing/archery/tact/anat/heal/resist/____ will give you a lot of hope for leaderboards
    For a good all-around build:

Macing/tact/anat/taming/lore/vet/magery(or switch for healing but you'll need some gate control for petS, single mare/ostard you won't. also can use magery for healing since pets will tank)

Yes this character is purely for events - should have mentioned that.
