Im a little confused as to what would be a good mining template here on UOR with the custom ore golem content.

I usually put mining on my BS crafter to be able to smelt but that char has no combat capabilities of ANY kind and will get smahed by ore golems.

Do you usually want your miner to have combat skills? Melee dexxer I assume? What melee skill uses mining picks I assume I want that?

    Thx!

I recommend making a battle miner to mine but there's certainly nothing wrong with traditional mining or recall mining. I use a LJ battle miner and a parry/macing battle miner - usually together but both can stand on their own just fine.

Because golems are very magic resistant and take reduced pet damage, dexxers are the obvious choice. The choice for which type of dexxer battle mining you do really comes down to which slayers you can find. Axes tend to be the most expensive so that may limit your options for making an LJ. Other slayers, depending on their mods, tend to be cheaper but you should still expect to pay 100k+ for most mining slayers.

You can use gargoyle pickaxes and shovels from your backpack so there is no need to worry about equipping them and then using them for battle.

I think a strong template is:
    GM swords
    GM tactics
    GM lumberjack
    GM anatomy
    GM healing
    GM magery
    GM mining

    -OR-

    GM weapon skill
    GM tactics
    GM anatomy
    GM healing
    GM mining
    GM magery
    GM parry

Taking parry is huge for survivability. On my lumberjack, I can mow down golems but I need to be careful how many I get at the same time - mainly agapite, valorite and marble golems. With my parry guy, it takes about twice as long to kill each golem but I can take on 4 agapites or 3 valorites/marbles at the same time with no problem.

I think GM magery is useful for gating the ore piles back to your house or bank

    Mining
    Macing
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Magery
    Peacemaking
    Music

This is my battle miner template. I use a war hammer for crushing blows, magery for heals and traveling, and peacemaking so that I rarely get hit.

I also think that peace dexxers are working insanely good for mining, and Macing is propably the best weapon choice.
If you plan to do Golems only on that toon, then you can lower Peacemaking (golems have a low barding diff.) and Magery for 50ish Healing - this will let you use your weapon 247 and will give you some extra kill time / hour

The Lumberjack template lacks CC, and you will find yourself chasing after golems a lot, but it works great as all around resource collector.

Can you control the rate that these spawn?

If so, why peace over provocation?

No, there's nothing to be done about the spawn rate and peace because they spawn solo in most places.
