Hey guys, I'm leveling up mining on my second character to help raise blacksmithing. I'm getting higher level now and keeping track of where I find new metals on my UOAM. I notice sometimes that if I mine even near a spot that I've marked that I dug up Copper before then I am starting to mine up copper, then I try to mine where I KNOW I had gotten copper, but "there is no metal." My mining is at 95 now; is it just mining that colored ore from farther away, or are there more spots with different colored ore than I thought? I'll try to explain further if this doesn't make sense, but maybe someone can help me out that understands mining better? - Ikibahd
Oh, also on a somewhat related note, is Magery good for a miner / blacksmith if I eventually start mining up golems? I found it really easy to level up my Evaluating Intelligence (to beef up my magery) with a macro, so my current template is: Blacksmithing (50.4 I'm waiting to get enough iron ) Eval Int. (GM) Hiding (97.2) Item ID (98.3) Magery (53.9 - Haven't figured out how to really level this yet, but mostly spent time mining) Meditation (81.8) Mining (94.4) I guess it's not too late to drop magery, med, and Eval Int if it doesn't really fit well for protecting myself; I'm not sure how bad golems are when you mine them up. Anyone have experience with magery on their miner?
"there is no metal here" usually signifies that someone has mined that spot recently and the resource has yet to respawn. We can't have mining spots give out limitless ore now, can we? :0 Mining on a blacksmith is a highly suggested combination as it will allow you to work with and smelt the more colorful ores as you progress. Magery as an offensive tool for the various mining "content" will prove ineffective. golems, elementals and the like are resistant to magic. If you wish to experience black smithing, mining, and custom "mining content (aka battle mining)" one one character, it can be done. Others may chime in with suggestions on how to power game it with three accounts. I'll leave that to someone else. blacksmith/mining/tactics/weapon type/anatomy/healing is 600 skill points that can handle the tasks leaving 100 points for w/e else you feel you need. There are resources available that further explain mining, black smithing, elemental mining, and possible templates by using the forum and main website search functions. Here's an example of my search results for "battle mining" on our forum. Check out the link for "keza's gameplay video" on the subject. It's pretty cool! My battle miner is gm smith mining anat tact mace parry healing and ive been able to top allot of the golem kill boards relatively easy.
I should also add using full invul/ gm valorite dex suit and a force+ elemental ban/earth shatter weapon is key for easy golem kills
To your original question on nodes, there are several target spots per node, think of it more like a 3x3 grid that all grabs the same deposit. Also there is a player made uoam add-on that has just about every ore deposit already tagged that you can get from the forum. When I find the link I'll add it. Thanks for the replies; I figured I probably should have gone with melee on this guy, but my first (and only other char) is a bard dexxer so I wanted to try something different... I was originally just going to be a crafter but I thought I should have some kind of defense against monsters. Live and learn I guess - I'll make a different mage I suppose.
@Ikibahd You may discover later that your bard dexxer is a rather valuable asset. Please don't discard it just yet.
I use my melee char to kill as my miner digs. Once they pop, I hide/stop macro on miner, bust out melee char for the kill. Then repeat. My melee char is a LJ with a nice axe, makes quick work of the monster
