so i just started my second month and i think it's time to ask the gold question just to find out what methods are out there. So far i have escorted the population of a small town to get my new mage a chance to afford regs and now that i can, sometimes, gate that effort has become much easier but i am left asking what are the other ways to earn gold for a new player? i have read the guides and i'm just curious what other ways there might be to earn money outside of killing mobs in a dungeon and if dungeon crawling is the best way, which dungeon would you recommend to a newer player?

I typically choose the monster-killing path. And I recommend monsters that don't cast, while you're building up skills, for two reasons. One, you can back off to let your bandage have more time to finish, and you don't need to worry about catching a Flamestrike in the back as you run away. And two, this allows you to keep your Magic Reflect shield up and not have to worry about whether it's been drained a bit or not. So if you do see a red name approaching, you should have time to take a couple steps away from the monster you're fighting, and cast Recall, with the first spell laid on you bouncing back and not interrupting you.

You could always go the tailor route and work on bulk order deeds. There's some decent money to be made there and cotton in abundance in Ocllo for working your tailor(s) and filling BODs.

Selling cloth can earn you some fair money as well. That's how I got started here.

    Good luck!

Creating a bard with provoke and killing monsters is probably the 'best' way for easy cash early on. Provoke is very painless to train and reaps large rewards. Arctic Ogre Lords in Ice Dungeon and Ogre Lords in Despise are the two big hot spots, though you will likely get PK'd a bit. Stay off the beaten path if your blood pressure can't take that.

Gathering cloth, lumberjacking, and mining are all pretty decent ways to get starter cash. Jump in IRC and sell the resources to other players, don't sell to NPCs. Some rough prices on what you can expect to make:

    Boards - 3gp per
    Oak Boards - 25gp per
    Iron Ingots - 8.75gp per
Colored Ingots - 10+gp per, depending on color
    Cloth - 1.25gp per

My top tip for gold is BOARDS

You make a lot more gold/h than with iron ingots.

Iron ingots sell more reliably though. And wait until you have quantities worth selling before advertising in IRC.
Noobs trying to sell 3422 boards will have a hard time selling them. Wait until you have 10k or 20k and sell then.

Greeting! First off, let me extend you an invite to Project Sanctuary, the new player guild here, we will for sure help you hunt, train, and get some gold in those bank vaults of yours (as well as meet some people and form some relationships with the community!) PM or IRC me if this sounds worthwhile to you!

To answer your question about making gold here are my two cents:
    1. Bard. Something with a bard. Provo and peace are both easy enough to macro up and they really help with solo hunting. My provomage and my peacedexxer both wreck pretty well.
    2. Fishing! Once you gm fishing, which is again, just a macro set for a few days, you can head out and start fishing up MiBs. Make sure you have a fighter of some kind on your boat, Or even make your fishermen a fighter of some kind, as you will need to kill the mob who has the MiB. Completing those MiBs will give you a stack of gold (1-3k), a bunch of lowish level items (to sell) and some shipwrecked items that you can then gather up and sell to the community. Fishing also produces level 1 t-maps and special fishing nets, both of which will be purchased by the community here.

    3. Get a group together (join a guild!) and run a dungeon! This is most profitable and interactive and who knows, you might come out with a great story.

    Hope this help!

Second off let me extend you a warm invitation to the Citizens of Vesper. Although we are all new players right now we are looking to expand into broader areas and enjoy the company of other players. That being said, i , being a veteran obtain my loots a variety of different ways and can teach you some of my favorites if you reach me in IRC as Weigraf.

Also don't join some guild with ranking systems. Here in Vesper we have Britannia's first democracy.

I recommend a melee char with peacemaking... I went with fencing just because I like the animation of a spear (ana/heal/tac/fence/peace/music/70.1magery for recall) I farmed earth elementals for the money for my first house and to GM the magery of my bard. Once my bard was done I abandoned the melee char and barded ogre lords to fund my tamer. Now I have my tamer and I'm set. (The money for my tamer was needed to place a house in compassion to get me to 71.1 as well as magery)

I'm on hour 48 here now. I made a peacing-dexxer with lumberjack and I've already financed my house and have 50k in the bank while working on a mage.

I would recommend making a bard with provoke. They can be macroed so fast and are great for gold. I have made two lumberjacks and made some money chopping tree's but for the time you put in you make more gold per hour as a bard. I used to hunt demons at the demon temple. There are three of them so you can have a cycle of death going. It's easy money...

If you are going to take the lumberjack route I'd recommend keeping your normal boards and make a carpenter with them (new bods are coming soon!) and sell the oak boards.

Here's my two cents: Kill lizardmen in Despise, skin their bodies to get spined leather, then sell that leather for 20gp per to all of the tailor bodders out there.

When i started i did it very similar to most of the other posts:
-Made a gather char and 2 dexxers.
-Ran around Moonglow island gathering flax/cotton to make bandages then sparred the dexxers on each other that night to gm.
-Then Macro'd one dexxer with peace/music and used the others to kill misc monsters. To place a small on Moonglow Island (close bank/cotton fields/ close portal to all cities)
-While waiting for spawn I would ran around Moonglow gathering cotton constantly.
-Once peace dexxer was done, switched to harder mobs and made a mage bard.

If you only want to keep working on your mage for now while using your magery skills at the same time, I recomend the route that works for me. If you have at least 50 magery, with your starting gold, buy yourself a blade spirits scroll and add it to your spell book, grab your starter regs and head to the 1st level of Shame or Despise. Kill Ettins, Earth elementals and trolls with the blades. You'll make money, and work skills at the same time and if you're really daring you can wreslte or work a melee skill while the creature is distracted with the blades =P

The dexer w/ peace making seems like an awesome idea too, I've never tried that one yet.
