Greetings all. Just read through some of the docs and guides here and I'm really impressed with what's going on. I love the item tracking and PvM tracking, it's a fantastic idea. And even most of the non-historic aspects of the shard seem like genuinely good ideas... especially the anti-macro programming, and the keep and castle updates. I just had a couple of questions that I couldn't find answered, at least in the last hour of perusing through the docs: 1) Do you require "negotiate features with server" from Razor? If so, what features are removed? 2) As far as I can tell, the housing limit is 1 house per character, up to 10 houses, but no more than 10 (even if you have max of 3 accounts, 5 characters per account). Is this correct? 3) What is the status of the "Land Rush"? Thanks a lot for your help and knowledge!
No, you can connect with or without Razor, however Razor is the only approved 3rd party application. Any others (such as EUO, AUO, etc) are strictly forbidden As it stands currently the housing limitations are 1 house per character, which would allow any user up to a maximum of 15 houses across all 3 accounts. The max limitations of 10 houses total regardless of character slots & account slots is something that has been discussed before, however at this time I am not certain whether or not this will see publish to the live server, Chris will have to clarify further on that subject. The 'Land Rush' ended quite some time ago, and with that the global restrictions to the world for areas in which a player was able to place housing was lifted. There are no longer any restrictions to the areas which are eligible for house placement, which can be seen here: Renaissance World Map
Cool, thanks guys. So Pandora's Box has been opened (unlimited Razor) Regarding the 10-house-max, I saw in the code of conduct: ...but it sounds like that is not implemented? Would suggest updating that page then - perhaps the limit is in fact 15 per household? For the Land Rush, good to know. The housing map being shown online, too, is an incredibly cool idea. As far as I can tell, there is still tons of space out there (and no one occupying my favorite location, the lake near the Spirituality Shrine). Thanks a lot for the quick and helpful responses.
By the way, I hope some of the new technologies here - the online item database, PvM charts, UOAM house map, etc. - become essentially "must-haves" in all UO freeshards from here forward. I've not see any of these before, and I think it's a great addition.
All of that is custom craft of the administration here and I find it highly unlikely the source will be shared in the Freeshard community. Secret sauce is secret sauce
I must advise you that there is a village of settlers who have moved in around the shrine. They are folks from the original Paws village (Paws is original UO lore prior to UO Online) who have sought to resettle the homes of their ancestors. They are rather peaceful and seek to maintain the area around the Shrine so that more settlers may find their way, and to make it safe for any pilgrimages to the Shrine to fine safe lodgings. - Jupiter of the Grey Order
Blaise, who said they need to share the source? The implementation of that is fairly simple. It's the idea that's difficult. 80% of this website and forum is lifted from shards of the past. Maybe 90%. Not the code, just the ideas. I couldn't care less if the code is shared, any competent coder could figure out how to do it. It's the act of simply raising the bar and creating those expectations in future players that I'm pleased with. Jupiter, it looks like that settlement is directly surrounding the shrine itself. I'm speaking of the lake at the end of a river off to the west of the shrine. As far as I can tell, that's completely unoccupied. But interesting to know that history of the area and the lore of those players and what they're trying to recreate.
Its possible Blackthorn, but highly unlikely. The item database for instance was developed so that we could provide our players with a server they can explicitly trust . You would be hard pressed to find any shard that would want their item creation habits exported to a website that their players have access to. At last check only 5-6 of the active shards even list their online player players, or player count on login. Its so detailed that even items that the staff carry around are indexed, which is why the staff are not allowed custom items on Renaissance. As for the PvM Leaderboard this is only 100-150 lines of code on our game server. However on the website aspect of it was quite the undertaking. Along with a desktop application that was custom developed to do all our data processing each night. Honestly some of these things started out with the thought process of "Is this possible" and progressed from a workable technical demo into the format that you see now. For instance I just recently expanded the player profiles to show if you rank in the top 10 in kills of any monster. And expanded our bestiary to show the top 10 killers for every monster on the server. We even took the time to create a master database of every drop from every monster in the world. In the end we wanted to allow players from the Renaissance era to experience a point in time they know and love, while incorporating some features they might commonly see in newer games today. Also this allows us to attract new players with these features. Sadly most free shards today are focused on profit or power trips rather than preserving the history of the greatest game of all time. As for making some of the tips and tricks that I have developed here open source, I won't rule it out, but It is not planned at the moment. We take our intellectual property very serious here because we develop our own tools in house, they are not based on open source code developed by other players.
This was actually planned to be added much earlier, but changes were made with other systems to reduced the critical need to implement the household system. You can read about our eventual plan for managing house ownership in this thread. However we have no plans to adjust the 1 house per character method, only eventually limit the amount of houses owned per IP. As the server only has 600 or so houses now, with room for 3000+ we have plenty of time to address this if it becomes a problem http://www.uorenaissance.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2342&start=15
(btw, I didn't mean to imply that you had any obligation to make your code open source; just that perhaps other server creators will put in the same effort now that the bar is raised) Admittedly I don't really follow this, but it's neither here nor there I guess. What time is server restart? From the players online chart, it looks like around 8am CST? Also, I'm unable to test my ping to login.uorenaissance.com via UOTrace. Any idea why that might be?
There is no server restart. Except for the scheduled patches, the server seldom has any downtime. You can ping the server in game using the command "-ping" (note the minus sign).
