Hello again everyone! I wasn't sure if here or Guides was the best place to ask questions, sorry if I chose wrong. Also I know IRC is the best place (and the folks in #PS have already been a huge help) but I live 13 hours ahead of most people here.. What do people do with their horses when they get a house? Mine's bonded, if it makes a difference. If I have a sandstone patio, I know if I'M on the roof some things can attack me, but can someone get in from the roof? I know about putting the key in the doorway, but I noticed in the housing guides some people put keys inside the house as well. Why? Also on keys, if I change my locks, do the old keys disappear? (including in the bank) I'm sure I'm going to want to get another house someday, and I saw quite a few good spots. But are there areas a newb should avoid moving in? Guild areas, unfriendly neighborhoods? If I see a spot between 2 houses am I expected to speak to the neighbors before I place? Wondering if there's some kind of etiquette I should follow. Thanks in advance (and serious thanks to X-Factor for helping me get a house to worry about in the first place!!) Caska
Hi Caska, this is a good place to ask. Especially with that many questions. Let's see: 1) You can stable a horse, if you dont want to ride it anymore. Costs 30gp per RL week. You can also simply stay mounted and log off. Tamed animals go wild over time in houses. I think it takes 20hours for a wonderfully happy bonded animal (maximum loyality) to go wild. 2) Yeah, mobs on your roof can get inside the house. That's why it is safer to place a table also on the stairs that go down and block that way. 3) Doorways are the best place for keys, as you have access from inside and outside. Inside larger houses each door can and should have their own key in the doorway. Any other placement of keys is for deco purposes or bad house security. 4) Old keys dont always disappear. Especially if they are inside a key ring or if they are locked down, then they wont disappear. But one thing is common for all old keys, they dont work anymore on the doors, once you change your locks. 5) No etiquette. Just place and enjoy your home. Generally in UO this applies: So, yeah, there are hostile places. Living beside notorious murderers and thieves can be risky. But, every experience is good and improves your skills in surviving.
This is what I love about this place. House security help from a thief Thanks a lot for the answers BlackEye. (And that picture is hilarious) I guess it's time to build more tables! I swear I'm going through more of those than an ECW show...
Great questions! I , for one, would absolutely find out who your neighbors are or if you are in guild lands. I know that PS, KoS, Stormhold, Paws, the Urks, DG, and a few other guilds have some specific areas they occupy, and at the very least, get to know those folks cause you might see them a lot. I recall, on another shard, I had placed a house right in the township of a bunch of reds. They killed me on sight more than a few times, but eventually left me alone. It stil would have been nice to know about that area as I likely wouldnt have planted there in the first place. Glad #PS is helping you!
Oh god, Krake, your story is exactly what I'd be afraid of! Sometime between fiddling with table walls I need to do some research.. what if I run into a Homeowner's Association guild that PKs me for not using the right color fishing nets on my roof or something? And yeah, the times I've gone in to bug #PS I've gotten help immediately. Y'all are great
Bumping myself because I have another few questions. what are some good items to hoard for cheap deco purposes? I have....fish. logs and fish. but i've seen some creative things like clock frames? is there a "must have" list of useful materials? and raising things w the deco tool, is the limit higher if i start by placing something from a table/etc or does it get stuck at the same spot? (at work and still antsy to get back to arranging)
