Hi, I'm an old player of UO for many years, My wife and I had five accounts at one time there, but with rising cost of daily living and living on a fixed income we had to quit. We gave everything to the guild we were in at that time on Sonoma. Now my questions, I notice you are 2nd age? Am I correct there, does this mean you are a Trammel environment, if so then I can get my better half the good news as she hated the PVP in UO and only played in Trammel. We also did not like the 3d look of the game and always played in 2d. Next, I still have UO on here from the last time I played. (Kept it updated just in case they ever went free) Will I have to remove it or will there be no problems there? Next, I still have my old UO Renaissance disk, can it be used here, or do I just download your client and put the old disk away? I am sure I will have many more questions after I get a reply here. Thanks Michael.
There is no Trammel, you may be murdered and robbed in the wilds. Best to use the client from this website, its a small and quick download.
Thanks for the reply, looks like the wife will not be joining me, and I hate to play without my best friend, I may take a long look around, but if she will not play (She hates PVP) then I don't really see much use of myself playing alone.
There is plenty of non-PVP things to do on UOR. Does your wife enjoy crafting? Fishing? Running vendor shops? Decorating? RPing? Look around a bit, and then see if you can get her to give it a shot - the community here is great, and I'm betting she could have a good time here as well. Also, be sure to hop on IRC and chat. Plenty of helpful folks there as well.
I'm not much for PVP myself, or is my spouse. We both play. I have been here for a little over a month and have yet to die from a PK. This shard is awesome and takes me back to when I played on the official server. Most players are pretty mature, but of course you have the couple jackasses who like to just cause trouble. They are few and far between, so the world is big enough to avoid them. Start playing!
It is a feluccia based server. That being said there are so many different options on ways to play here, that escaping pvp and pking is totaly possible. Tamer quest and fishing ancient mibs, are instanced areas that can be played for example with difficult content and good rewards. Crafting has a huge impact on the economy with BODs and rewards. There are lots of things that can be done, and if you have 2 people constantly playing together, you will have the upper hand against pks more times then not.
You won't find many trammel based servers that are any good to my knowledge. Most are felucca based anyway, and this is by far the best one out there. Yeah it sucks being pk'd, but that risk is far outweighed by the awesomeness of this server. Even if your wife doesn't pvp, there are ways to evade pk's and those situations.
This realm fosters a wonderful community and has a crew of GM's who strive for daily excellence, something that no amount of supposed safety could ever substitute. I can tell you from personal experience, I've only been here for 3 months and I can count on one hand the number of times I've successfully been pk'ed, and I've met far more quality individuals than griefers and dirt bags. I know I don't just speak for myself when I say this, but there's nothing more thrilling than being out hunting and gathering loot, knowing that someone else could happen by and make me truly earn the loot or cause me to lose it all. Even more thrilling is finding a friendly stranger that joins you in the adventure. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Gives tangible value to our cherished pixel crack when you understand that it could all be lost. Anyway, check us out, hope you enjoy!
The wife is an absolute anti-PK and is usually anti-social. Yet, she enjoys this server just as back in the early 2000s. I would say that the risk is really minimal. The wife wanders the lands hauling NPCs from town to town and has never been PK'd. I will suggest hiding on all characters. As for myself, I have been PK'd twice and both times the red did not loot me and even kept my horse alive. Give the server a try, it's bad ass.
Hey Drakelord If you or your wife need any help here, feel free to join #PS on IRC. It is the IRC channel for Project Sanctuary, we are a guild that aim to help new players on the shard. Feel free just to hang around and ask questions, see if you like us, there is no pressure to join the guild, and you can of cause leave the channel anytime you like. Cosmo
Welcome aboard Drakelord, There are several ladies here on UOR who enjoy it and don't PvP (some do PvP though). They've gotten used to either getting PKed, escaping, or avoiding it entirely through the various tons of things to do in the safety of towns.
I'd like to reinforce what most have already said here; the risk of being pked here is exceptionally low unless your in a dungeon or hotspot. And when you do, they're often times nice enough to red you and not take your things. This is an incredible shard, I'd hate to see you go just because of that one little detail!
I think Cosmo already mentioned Project Sanctuary, the new player guild. But I will invite you to join the guild, or at the very least the IRC channel for our guild. I am Krake and I am the guildmaster for Project Sanctuary. If you dont want to play alone, and desire some good people to hang out and train with, hunt with and enjoy the game with, then by all means come and be a part of PS. We will help you with anything we can. And I agree with everything else the others have said. I have been here for about 9 months and have been PKed maybe half a dozen times at most. In most of the cases the PKs just took my wep, regs and gold. Then rezzed me right there, or left a rune and recall scroll on my body. So for the vast majority of them, even the PKs are civil. This is the best free shard I have ever had the pleasure of playing on. Great staff, great community, LOTS to do that is fun and profitable, and we have a lot of player run and staff run events. Give it a try! I am sure my guild, or many other guild/players would be willing to set you up with a house to macro in or store stuff in right off the bat! Cheers. ~Krake
