As Im looking over the system and learning about the various skills, I must say Im intrigued by some of the standalone skills. That is to say, the skills which have no major synergies or function entirely without support skills. As Im currently approaching GM ItemID to round out a character with only 100 skill points to spare, I wonder are there any other skills which are useful in almost any build? And for those who use those skills, how are you liking them?
I've still never used tracking; I plan on loading it on one of my PvP characters. I still think Stealth is an awesome skill, especially while GMed.
Magery is pretty much top of the list. It requires no other skills, is practically requisite on most characters because of its capability. I only have a single character with 0 Magery but he's a cop and only hassles thieves so no Magery needed.
Could you elaborate a bit? Im not entirely sure how it could be that strong, but I also know Im not one for PvP. From what I read, it doesnt appear that good on paper, and Im a bit tied up on skill points at the moment while I finish up my main. Edit: Actually that really should be directed at all present. Tell me more about tracking. No need to be shy.
Can you even Stealth without Hiding skill? I'm fairly certain it doesn't and absolutely certain it shouldn't. You can't even begin training it until your Hiding skill is high enough (80 or something)
It takes 80 hiding to train stealth. You cannot stealth unless you are already concealed. So you must hide then stealth.
Can you drop Hiding after training Stealth and still use it with Invis or a lucky hide on the side of a house? If so, that's booty.
if I am going to cook a 60k pile of fish steaks for a resist party, I don't want a fail. It's also very easy to gm. Lastly, If you are going to fill 3 accounts, might as well have one utility style misc. character.
I would rank the usefulness of stand-alone skills like this; 1. Tracking (pvp, events, hunting, etc.) 2. Hiding (increases survivability to any class) 3. Magery (useful but only if you have the intelligence to support it)
First attempt invis self then activate stealth, will try stealth right after invis, as well as after 10 seconds have passed (in case some rule connects the hiding timer to stealth's ability to succeed) You cannot! will say "you are not hidden well enough. Become better at hiding." second attempt get a few squares away from anyone, cast invis, then attempt to hide (never certain if this is a known boost to chance of hiding or not, but it has always seemed true in my time here) and THEN execute stealth. The same stealth error is given until at 80 hiding, no matter the fact that stealth is 100
