Would a Pure Bard be a viable fun character? I dont want any Tamer/Warrior Skills on this character, but I'd like to have a solid build when he's done.(I have other Tamer/T-Hunter/Warrior pvm types in the works) Am I wasting time with all 4 Skills or would I be better off just using 2-3? My Bard Skills ATM are: 100 Music 100 Provo 60 Peace 30 Disco/Entice Other Skills: 52 Mage 48 Wrestle Possible additional Skills: Mage Wrestle/Eval Scribe/Resist Hide/Lockpicking Med With 400 Skill used, it limits the rest, any suggestions?
Ok. The problem in my eyes with a pure bard build is that the bardic skills all share timers. That means you will have to decide if you want to provo, disco, or peace, every 10 seconds. Personally I would skip peacemaking/disco and just do this build: 100 music 100 provo 100 magery 100 meditation 100 wrestling 100 resist 100 hiding If you were to add variance to that build, you could drop hiding for disco. Keep in mind you will be provoking 2 mobs onto each other. Lets say you did that to 2 dragons. 10 seconds later the timer is up, what is more gold per hour, spending 20 more seconds discoing both dragons, or finding 2 more dragons to provoke onto each other. IMO you will make more gold just moving onto more targets and provoking. Hiding on a char with gm resist and wrestling makes your character a pk's nightmare. Plus I like hiding because when you can take a very relaxed approach to farming and just hide and troll the forums while the monsters kill each other.
Gideon Jura- do you lead with disco on hard to bard creatures, or just use it to weaken the stronger one so they die about the same time? Resist but no Wrestle, if confronted by a pk with a weapon is it just bug out time? El Horno- hiding has the timer as well, but you prefer it over disco, is it used waiting for a second target after the first one dies? Resist, is it really needed for PvM or in there for PvP mainly?
Pure Bards get the most damage potential when using fire horns as it is increased based on the number of barding skills and their respective levels. While you may not always use all three in one setting, I daresay they could all come in handy. I have 0 Wrestle and Resist on my bard, as he's a Carto/Lockpicker, but GM hiding and a good Recall macro make him very efficient with escaping PKs.
resist and wrestle is for survivability against both pvm and pvp. Unlike a tamer, monsters will be targetting and running at you casting spells, so I find those skills very useful. If confronted by a pk, with a weapon or not, its time to bug out regardless of your build. How can you expect to compete with 7x skills all aimed at killing you, when you have a pvm build? Hiding shares a timer and I prefer it over disco because of 2 reasons, both relating to how I would use this character to farm. #1 As a provoker, I generally would farm AOLS or destard or something of that nature. When farming these locations, I do not like to be constantly on the move. I prefer firing up the television or forums and switching back and forth to loot/provoke. That said, if you use the invis spell to do this, you will be wasting mana, and you will mistime things and come back to a ghost since you let the invis timer expire. This has happened many times to me. Hiding never wears out and I like that. So tl:dr= I provoke the aols onto each other, hide, and go do other stuff on my other accounts while they kill each other. #2 Pks roll in, you boogie towards to entrance to ice and pop hide the second you leave dungeon (dont forget to tab out). Then pks pop out of dungeon and cast reveal or toss a purple pot down, you move 1 tile west and your still hidden, but now inside the dungeon. Recall home. You can just pop back in and out of dungeon at leisure and almost always assure escape. Also lets say your farming a location with no nearby entrance. Turn any LOS corner and hide. Now the pk is gunna have to reveal you. His options are purple pots or spell. Both of these options require him to cancel his precasted recall interrupt spell and gives you more then enough time to recall out. I will just sit there hidden with my finger on recall macro. As soon as they go for the reveal, you have a HUGE window to gtfo.
Yeah, I dunno, I just keep reflect up and hide. I also don't use blade spirits or anything and just rely on the spawn to work itself. If I see reds, I hit my Recall macro hotkey and I'm out. No scooting involved. I generally will tend to hide with at least one line of sight break between me and wherever other players may come from. For example, behind a wall or around a corner. My favorite farms have been Executioners and OLs.
IMO I will take Eval over hiding every day of the week for this build. Also tracking instead if you are using the character for overworld holiday spawns! Other than that I fully agree a provo mage is the way to go!
