Question About Fishing

When I was at high 80's and 90's skill, I would fish up sea serpents all the time. Sadly, however, since I GM'd I have yet to see a serpent. Have sea serpents become an endangered species? Is it just me or is this the normal reward for GMing Fishing Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Never mind, I finally caught one just after I posted lol. However, they seem to be much rarer.

It's all random. You'll go a long time without any and then you'll get 3 at one time. Just have to keep at it. Make sure you're in deep water away from the shore.

I use 3 fishermen at a time so they come fairly often.

tsee hee Which leads to another question: I always thought you fished up krakens only if you used a net. You mean you can fish them up by just fishing? (I better make me some fire elemental scrolls asap)

You can fish them up without a net but they are vary rare.

I get most of mine without using nets.

Now you all have me interested in this skill, as I've only trained it up once in my UO career, but never even used him after I trained the skill. Was always pvping or murdering innocents. So what templates do people use in general with fishing? Bard, tamer, or just magic will kill the kraken?

From pole fishing, you can fish up shipwreck krakens by themselves.

From net fishing, you fish up shipwreck krakens along with a pirate ship

Ooooo @Cheapsuit, you mean you would reform and be a productive member of society???? That's awesome lol. I just have GM Magery and haven't tackled a kraken fished up from a pole by myself. I fish with just one fisher usually but I'm counting on two fire elementals summoned from scrolls and lots of energy bolts also from scrolls so I don't fail. I'll let you guys know how I make out.

Is it legal to macro fishing unattended if you're not collecting the fish, but instead letting it drop to the ground and decay?

Like I could do it next to a trashcan and include throwing the fish into the trashcan in the macro. Would that be ok? @Chris

The only thing that determines the legality of afk fishing is your skill level. If you're under GM in your fishing skill you can afk fish. At GM you get afk gumps.

Afk macro fishing all you want up until 99.9.. where the fish go (trash barrel, on the ground, keep them, hide them in your ex girlfriends house) does not matter. Like Kirby said, you won't get the afk gump until you hit gm.

And from my understanding of others and perhaps @Chris can confirm, if you hit gm fishing on land and happen to get an afk gump, you can contact Chris or gm and they can remove that mark against you. Like i said, heard it from others so it would need to be confirmed.

As others have said, once you GM fishing, the unattended macro rules apply. You get the random gump and if you answer it correctly you are fine. However, when you fish in deep water, you start fishing up serpents at 85ish or so. These can have maps, nets or big fish (I think big fish are higher skill) Anyway, what if one of these come up while you are watching Netflix? Not a pretty picture. Your best bet is to be there while you fish in deep water, or stay by the shore when you hit a level where serpents can come up. Yes, I know there are macros to take care of this but...they seem to be a bit too complicated for a non techie like me. Its fun to get maps and nets, and they sell very well too. The big fish you can make into trophies with a taxidermy kit. Anyway, you don't have to worry about any of this until you hit 80. Right now just have fun and macro fish to your heart's content.
