    Champion Spawns and the Harrower

The goal of this guide is to cover the locations and basic mechanics of champion spawns throughout the lands of Britannia as well as summoning and defeating the Harrower.

    Champion Spawn Locations

Britannia is home to 5 champ spawn locations. The champ spawn alters can be found in Despise, Fire Dungeon, Deceit, Destard and Terathan Keep.

    Britannia Locations
    [IMG]

    1. Despise Level 3 (Vermin Horde Spawn)
    2. Fire Dungeon Level 1 (Abyss Spawn)
    3. Deceit Level 3 (Unholy Terror Spawn)
    4. Destard Level 1 (Cold Blood Spawn)
    5. Terathan Keep (Arachnid Spawn)

The Lost Lands are home to 5 champ spawn locations as well. Champ spawn alters can be found at Terra Sanctum, just South of Khaldun, Ice West, City of the Dead and just North of Tortoise Lagoon. The spawn North of Tortoise Lagoon is where Lord Oaks is summoned. Acquiring the skull of Lord Oaks is a vital part in summoning the Harrower.

    5. Khaldun Spawn (Random Spawn)

    Overview of Champ Spawn Mechanics

On UO:Renaissance, the Champ Spawn system is used to distribute platinum which can be redeemed for high level rewards. If your interested in the Platium Reward System, click here: Platinum. We will now go over the basic mechanics of Champ Spawns which will include....
    • Activating a Champ Spawn
    • Progressing a Champ Spawn
    • Types of Spawns and Their Champions
    • Loot from Champ Spawns
    • Titles from Champ Spawns
    • The Harrower

    Activating a Champ Spawn

The first step to activating a Champ Spawn is to acquire the maximum points in the virtue of Valor which is "Knight of Valor". To gain in Valor, you must kill the creatures associtated with active Champ Spawns. The best way to do this is to find a group of people that plan on working a spawn that someone else can summon or simply find an active spawn that is not being worked and kill the spawn off.

Once the status of "Knight of Valor" has been obtained, double click the icon and you will be able to target a non-active Champ Spawn alter as shown.....

    Progressing a Champ Spawn

After a Champ Spawn has been activated, you must progress the levels of the spawn to summon the Champion. All champ spawns have 4 tiers which must be worked.
16 red candles will pop up around the alter as the spawn is progressed while each red candle will pop up when a cycle of 4 white candles has been completed. Tier 1 will be red candles 1-5, Tier 2 will be red candles 6-9, Tier 3 will be red candles 10-13 and Tier 4 will be red candles 14-16. If a spawn is left alone or not worked fast enough, the candles will de-spawn.

Types of Spawns and Their Champions

    Abyss (Demon)
This is a very difficult spawn to complete. Several bards and tamers will probably be necessary to do this. The trick to defeating this champ is to A) Use a female character or B) Polymorph into a female character because male characters take a TON of damage from the Champ, Semidar (She's a real Bitch!).

    Arachnid (Spider)
This spawn is fairly difficult as well. Nothing a couple of bards and/or tamers can't handle though. The Champion Mephitis, has a powerful melee attack and the ability to poison you which makes for a hard time on melee character types. An easy way of killing this boss is to load it up with Energy Vortexes. Melee is not recommended for this Champ.

    Cold Blood (Snake)
This is a medium difficulty spawn. The boss is a very powerful Dragon by the name of Rikktor and has a powerful Earthquake attack. The closer you are to the Champ, the more damage the Earthquake does, therefore it is recommended that melee use extreme caution when fighting this Champ. Keeping your distance from Rikktor is highly recommended!

    Vermin Horde (Rat)
This is arguable the easiest spawn to work and can be done with a group of 3-4 people. The Champ, Baracoon, will spawn Ratmen at his side randomly as he takes damage. He will also turn random attackers into a Ratman which makes you go grey! Be careful! On OSI, you could use tribal kin paint to nullify this threat, but for now the paint does not exist on this shard so you just have to deal with it.

    Unholy Terror (Undead)
This spawn isn't to hard, just a bit aggravating. As always, bards and tamers are super helpful and will make everyone's life easier. The Champ is Neira, an undead queen riding a skeletal steed. She will throw bones on the ground during the fight, which can be cut up if you have a macro for your scissors and are quick enough to catch them. If you do not, they will turn into undead creatures, possibly Lich Lords and Rotting Corpses!

    Forest Lord (Lord Oaks)
Ah, Lord Oaks. The most prized Champion to take out. This is a very unique spawn which can be one of the easiest spawns you've ever done or one of the hardest spawns you've ever done. It is HIGHLY recommended you do not attempt this spawn with negative karma. If you are positive karma, the spawn will not attack you while having negative karma will result in the spawn attacking you. This spawn is tricky because you need to kill some of the blue spawn to progress it, which in turn will make you lose karma. The key is to pace yourself and not go negative karma before it is over. When Lord Oaks spawns, Silvani will also spawn. Silvani must be lured away and killed before Lord Oaks or it is VERY hard to kill Lord Oaks.

    The Harrower
The Harrower will be covered in the next section of this guide!

    Loot from Champ Spawns

When a Champion is killed, platinum is distributed directly into a players backpack. Qualifying for the platinum is based on the amount of damage that you do to a Champ compared to the top damager. Upon the death of a Champion, a very generous amount of gold, reagents, gems and sometimes platinum pieces drop all around the corpse! There are also rare items that have a small chance to be distributed such as Baracoon's Flute or a statuette of the Harrower! Check the Champion Beastiary for more details on specific loot that drops for each Champ. Also, the Champion's skull is distributed randomly to a top damager. All 6 skulls are needed to summon the Harrower which we will cover in the next section.

Platinum is also distributed while working the spawn leading up to the Champion. The chances to obtain platinum are as follows:
    • Level 1 Spawn - 1/250 chance
    • Level 2 Spawn - 1/100 chance
    • Level 3 Spawn - 1/30 chance
    • Level 4 Spawn - 1/15 (Except for Rat Archers, 1/30 chance)
The amount of platinum that is awarded to a qualified damager is different for each Champion and is detailed here:
    • Baracoon - 3 Platinum
    • Mephitis - 3 Platinum
    • Rikktor - 4 Platinum
    • Semidar - 4 Platinum
    • Neira - 5 Platinum
    • Lord Oaks - 5 Platinum
    • Silvani - 1 Platinum (Silvani spawns with Lord Oaks)
    • The Harrower - 20 Platinum
    • Tentacles of the Harrower - 1 Platinum
Here is a list of the skulls that drop from each Champ:
    • [IMG] Barracoon - Skull of Greed (blue)
    • [IMG] Rikktor - Skull of Power (orange)
    • [IMG] Mephitis - Skull of Venom (green)
    • [IMG] Semidar - Skull of Pain (yellow)
    • [IMG] Neira - Skull of Death (red)
    • [IMG] Lord Oaks - Skull of Enlightenment (white)

After a champ spawn has been completed, a portal will open on the alter to the Star Room which contains a moongate to all cities....

    Titles from Champ Spawns

Unique titles are also given out for slaying Champions. These titles have different tiers that depend on how many times you have killed each champion and it's spawn.
Here is a chart listing the titles for each tier.....

    Standard Champ Spawn Titles
    [IMG]
    Harrower Titles
    [IMG]
NOTE: Tier 1-6 can be obtained from killing ONLY the Harrower. Tier 7-12 depend on killing the Harrower PLUS regular Champions.

    The Harrower

The Harrower is pretty much the "End Game" boss if you will. Summoning the Harrower takes a ton of effort from multiple people and is fairly difficult to kill if you are not familiar with how it works. Hopefully this guide will save a few peoples lives next time they attend a Harrower event! Here goes........

As stated before, summoning the Harrower requires 6 skulls, one from each Champion.

The alter for summoning the Harrower is located in the Star Room.

Each skull must be placed in it's designated spot on the alter and a portal will appear. This portal leads to the entrance of a RANDOM dungeon and the Harrower will be somewhere inside.

Once you have found the Harrower, he will be in his first form as shown....
The Harrower must be defeated in this form for it to reveal it's true form.....

Once the Harrower is defeated in its first form, it will explode into the True Harrower with Tentacles of the Harrower all around it.

This is where the fun starts. The Tentacles of the Harrower have a life drain attack that feeds the True Harrower your life it steals. It is very important that when you are battling the Tentacles of the Harrower, you pay attention to your range from them. Letting them steal your life and heal the True Harrower is hurting the entire group you are with as well as yourself.

Now, keeping all of that in mind, the True Harrower can pull you in from 12 tiles out (Telamon confirmed. This was 16 tiles on OSI). This is almost certain death, depending on how many Tentacles of the Harrower are still alive when it pulls you.

Killing the tentacles isn't as hard as it may seem. The #1 method for doing this is casting Meteor Swarm, but there is a specific way to do it. A) As stated before, PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR RANGE FROM THE TENTACLES! B) You must cast the Meteor Swarm one tile in front of the Tentacle of the Harrower. The Tentacles usually die from 8-10 Meteor Swarms. Archers using Orcish bows can also be somewhat effective against the tentacles. Here are a couple of pics showing how the Tentacles are successfully taken down......

Once ALL of the Tentacles of the Harrower are dead, all damage can be focused on the True Harrower and collect your loot!!!!

Tip: Before you engage the Harrower in it's first form, mark a few runes to the North, East, South and West areas of it. This will help you avoid a deadly situation when trying to pick off the tentacles. Sometimes a different angle of attack is necessary to kill them!

Thanks for all your work on this Markos!
    .
With all the recent public Harrowers I wanted to help some people out with a few pictures and strategies.
    .

Part 1: Gideon's Harrower Tips and Tricks to get 20 plat per character!
    .
    1. Use as many characters as you feel you can safely control / use. 3 characters = 60 plat.
    .
    2. Attack the true Harrower with either:

    • Best Option: tame pets (dragons, mares, wyrms).
    • Second Best Option: Mage spamming Energy Bolt with 100 Med / Eval / Intelligence.
      • Tip: create a macro to use ebolt if > 40 mana, otherwise meditate, loop
      • Eval Int is mandatory.
    • Third Option: Archer with a power or vanq bow .
      • Make sure you have Anatomy.
    3. To earn platinum on the Harrower - as with any Boss - you must deal a percent of the top damager's damage.
    • So if the top damager deals 1000 damage, to be eligable for plat, you must deal some percent of that.
    • This means that if you don't cast enough energy bolts or they don't hit hard enough, you won't get plat.
      • Eval Int is very important, as is 100 med, due to this.
      • Similarly, using a solid bow and having 100 of all the combat skills and stats will help ensure you deal enough damage with an archer.
    4. The Harrower (in both forms) will periodically teleport characters onto him, melee them, drain their stamina, and cast spells on them.
    • I have never been teleported while invis or hiding.
      • This gives tamers an advantage as you can attack with pets and then invis.
    • Reactive Armor will mitigate much of the initial attack and gives you an opportunity to survive if teleported.
    • Stamina Pots and Heal Pots will also help you survive.
    • Knowing the above, if you stay buffed w/ Strengthen and full stamina and watch your clients carefully, you should be able to survive a teleport and heal up.
    5. That being said, you will occasionally have characters get teleported and die - happens to all of us.
    • Your damage dealt is not erased when you die.
    • Quickly walk to another character of yours and resurrect yourself. You could still get plat.
    • Do not expect other people to resurrect you. Be prepared and do it yourself.
    6. Thieves will be waiting to steal your plat off your characters.
    • Invis / hide your characters when the Harrower gets to 5% or lower HP.
    • Carry a player made lockable box on each character. Cast Magic Lock on it.
    • Make sure the box has at least 20 lbs worth of stuff in it.
      • Tip: A halberd works well.
    • When the Harrower dies, immediately tab to each client and move the platinum into the locked box.
      • Tip: You can create a macro to have organizer agent do this on a loop.
    7. Leave quickly. Either gate out or recall out to a safe location.
    • Personally I just recall and drop my locked box immediately in the bank.
    • Losing 20-60 plat to pick up a few thousand gold worth of gold, regs, and/or gems makes. no. sense.
    • Your pets are similarly not worth the trouble. Leave them and come back for them.
    .
Part 2: Gideon's Guide to killing Phase 1 Harrower in the best location.
    .
If you go back to Markos' guide and read up on the Harrower, you'll learn that the Harrower has 3 phases. Phases 1 and 3 are easy because dragons do all the dirty work. Phase 2 is tough because when the Lich Form dies, the True Form spawns in that exact spot. Approximately 8 Tentacles of the Harrower then spawn in a ring around that spot.
    .
    .
If you, your guild, or somebody you know is planning on spawning a Harrower, they might want to read this section.
    .
Essentially, you can place the True Form Harrower in a good spot by having everybody pull their pets off it at about 1% HP except for a single tamer with 1 dragon. That tamer can use all follow me and all kill to lure the Harrower to a good spot and then the group can burn the Harrower down. Make sure everybody knows the plan, works together, and keeps the dragon alive during the positioning.
    .
The dragon will die, but it's worth it. The difference between a well placed Harrower and a poorly placed Harrower can be dozens of player deaths when trying to kill tentacles.
    .
This guide isn't written in stone. It's mostly meant to share ideas on what works and what doesn't work. I will go over the spots in order from easiest to hardest.
    ..

Despise Ogre Lords - Difficulty Rating: 0
    .
Despise is the easiest location because it's very open. This spot is ideal because you can hit the ring of tentacles from all directions with little chance of being teleported and line of sight is great. Move the ogre lords and other spawn to the South East.
    .
Luring: He spawns at this location, making it even easier.
    .
    .

Fire Dungeon - Difficulty Rating: 0
    .
Great spot - easy line of sight, low level trash mobs, and a big area to work in. Just make sure you don't spawn him close to the little building or tentacles can spawn inside.
    .
Luring: No luring required. This is his spawn point.
    .
    .

    Destard Level 1 - Difficulty Rating: 0
    .
The picture below shows the typical location where we place the Harrower. This location works very well because the ring of tentacles will be approximately circular, players can hit them with Meteor Swarm with very little risk of being teleported, and there is good line of sight. Make sure to pull all the dragons, drakes, and wyverns as far west as possible before killing the Lich Form.
    .
    .

Luring: He can spawn at the two red dots. Drag him to the green dot.
    .

    Shame Level 3 - Difficulty Rating: 1
    .
Also an easy one but it does take awhile to drag him up here and people might die in the process. Worth the walk though! This spot is nice and open, no line of sight issues, and you can attack from 4 different directions.
    .
    .

Luring: The Harrower can spawn at either of the red dots. Drag him to the green dot.
    .
    .

Terathan Keep - Difficulty Rating: 1
    .
This spot is really easy except for the spawn. Make sure to carefully lure them all far away. Otherwise the spot is nice and open and should not be too difficult.
    .
Luring: The Harrower spawns here so no need to lure.

    .
    .
Hyloth Balrons - Difficulty Rating: 2
    .
The trash here can be really problematic - make sure to do a good job luring it away. Beyond that, this particular tile has worked out well in the past. The
tentacles typically spawn very close to the doors to the west and can be hit with meteor swarm by targeting the walls themselves. Similarly for the tentacles to the south east. The only ones that could be a problem are north side ones if they spawn close to the Harrower itself.
    .
This is the first of the challenging spots because of the spawn and line of sight issues. Unfortunately there really isn't a better option. What makes this spot the most favorable is that you can usually hit the west tentacles through the wall or use telekinesis to open the doors and then target, mitigating much of the LOS issue.
    .
Luring: No luring required - this is his hangout area.
    .
    .

Wrong Executioners - Difficulty Rating: 3
    .
This spot worked very well in our most recent Harrower at this location. Notice the exact tile location. This is important because you want tentacles to spawn around the Harrower and it is somewhat random. You are hoping they spawn in the hallway and in the room. However! Even with this location there is a chance they can spawn close to the walls, close to the Harrower itself, or even behind the walls. If the tentacles spawn favorably, this can be as easy as Destard. If they spawn poorly it can take some risky meteor swarm runs to take down a tentacle or two. Please let me know how this spot works out in the future. Obviously you want to clear the executioners out - the room to the west works well.
    .

Spawning the Harrower any further North or South can be extremely problematic. If you spawn him further south, then you run into nasty Line of Sight issues. North, you risk making the entire central room a teleport zone of death with no Line of Sight onto the tentacles there.
    .
Luring: He'll typically spawn in the executioner room so no luring.
    .

    .
Covetous Harpies - Difficulty Rating: 3
    .
I never understand how we manage to use this spot. Even with the Harrower planted exactly next to that cookpot, you get tentacles that spawn in very bad spots. I am always amazed that very few people get teleported and they go down relatively quickly.
    .
Unfortunately, if you check out the rest of the level, there probably isn't a better location. This spot allows the bulk of players to attack the tentacles from either the SE entrance to the room or the NE pocket. Once the first few tentacles drop, the rest can be killed with runs and people can heal the casters. The real strength of this location is the line of site is not terrible. That said, more people will die here than the previously mentioned locations. Make sure to clear harpies - preferably up past the dread spiders.
    .
Luring: He typically spawns in this room.
    .

    .
Hyloth Level 4 Demons - Difficulty Rating: 4
    .
This is where they start to suck. This spot is tough because the spawn is annoying and you don't have a lot of good places to lure it. Additionally, the line of sight is terrible from just about every side but the east. The particularly tough tentacles usually happen on the west side where line of sight is the worst. You'll want to make sure you have some folks healing the casters as they make runs in - they will get teleported and will need heals. This is literally the only option, though, so there's not a lot of discussion to be had.
    .
Luring: He spawns here in the middle so you don't need to lure but it makes luring trash tough.
    .

    .
Covetous Lich Room - Difficulty Rating: 5
    .

This has been one of the most challenging locations. You absolutely do not want to kill him any further south of where I'm indicating in the picture or in the Lich Room itself. Theoretically the best tiles on this level exist from where my character is standing, in a straight line North. We have successfully killed him in the center where the 4 hallways meet but it was pretty bad.
    .
I think this spot might be good because you'd have no trouble targeting any tentacles on the North or due South. The West side should also be pretty accessible. The hardest spot would likely be on the East side but you could get them down with runners while using telekinesis on the doors.
    .
Luring: He spawns just north in the Lich Room.
    .
    .

Deciet Entrance - Difficulty Rating: 5
    .
This is the worst spot in my opinion. In my experience if you spawn it any further north you run into extreme LOS issues. Sometimes you can't even get a tentacle because it's in a room, not near any walls, and the Harrower is standing in or near the only entrance to that room. South is even worse. You want to avoid that at all costs which is why I think it's worth it to settle for this location.
    .
If you spawn the Harrower in either of the spots here, you will probably have good LOS onto the tentacles that spawn in the hallway or the adjacent rooms. You might have to run into teleport range to hit them, but at least you will be sure to have LOS. Conceivably, the worst that could happen is you get tentacles very close to the Harrower itself. However, you should be able to get clear LOS onto them or be able to hit them by targeting a nearby wall. Just make sure to heal the runners and you should be good to go. The tile I'm standing on aligns East-West with the walls. Do not spawn it on this tile or you'll get tentacles in this small room for sure.
    .
Luring: Not needed, this is his spawn point.
    .
