Hi everyone, I'm an UO addict and I'm back for another dose. I'm starting from scratch and my typical pve setup is a tamer while all of my other toons are pvp builds. I'm definitely going to be looking for an active pvp guild. As far as pvp, what guilds are the most pvp active?
I think that Anarchy is pretty active could try them. If you want a real challenge run solo. The solo pk is like an endangered animal rare to actually see in the wild.
If you're looking for solo PKs, try the Jhelom bull pens. The solos are there looking for afk macroers hoping for a fight they might win.
Kind of a mix of both. There are straight up PKs that kill acolyte tamers. They don't loot and get nothing but the satisfaction of disturbing a macro. There are pure griefers. They stroll through and drag spawn onto the acolytes. They also get little, but they lack the stones to take the murder count. There are other acolytes use the above tactics, but they do it to take over whatever spot another tamer has set up. There is the rare accidental murderer who while trying to pull a snake for their own site kills another tamer without intent. This is my observation after many attended hours of taming at Jhelom.
I’m taming at the pens now and I’ve seen all of the above. Even SOF/SOL/CPU/Whatever alias ran though last night with 3 to kill all the baby tamers. I’ve also watched baby tamers murk each other, through dragging mobs mostly. Lol
Having "graduated" from Jhelom pens several times, I have seen a lot of this too. Here are my theories of what is happening (some of this is based on me using a screen recorder to observe what has happened prior to when I have died there): 1. Someone is just selfish and too lazy to get their own snake/too impatient to wait their turn, so they kill you with spawn and take your spot. 2. Some players are for some reason opposed to raising taming by AFK means. Eff them. 3. Some players are legit PvPers, but not very good, and so they kill AFK tamers to get their overall "death to kills" ratio more favorable rather than killing an alt on another account repeatedly which. Not everyone can be an elite PvPer, but many players would like to maintain a kill count near their death count to make themselves look good and Jhelom provides a huge pool of players with different names to populate their kill log. 4. Some players who join PK guilds want to turn red first to be one of the "cool kids", and so they come kill a few AFK tamers because it's easy. 5. Some players, upon discovering that they have died, believe that the person who is now in their former spot must have killed them or they otherwise mistake someone as the person responsible for disturbing their training, so they take revenge on an innocent victim and it escalates into a war. 6. Some players are feeding bull factories and get annoyed/inconvenienced when an AFK tamer pulls in bulls to tame. This one is VERY common and I have seen it many times. 7. Some players are just straight up jerks and get off on messing with people just for the fun of it. Jhelom is an easy place to do this. 8. Some players are against tamers in general and would like to discourage people from making/finishing tamers. 9. A player accidentally kills another player while dragging a snake or running away from spawn. 10. A player who doesn't understand how the commonly-used macro works brings tame bulls around another tamer, flags them grey, and pissed off the other tamer who takes them out. There are probably more, but this is what I could think of.
I'm pretty sure my tone is neutral. I am not casting askew at anyone's style of play. This is my first time making a tamer in 20 years of UO. I don't expect any kindness to be shown for that, nor do I expect that my positive karma for not messing with other tamer will somehow return to me. It's a game. People play it how they want. I don't have to understand their motivations, but if it helps someone else, I'll share. For instance, the player who sees another tamer in "their spot" after they wake up from a dirt nap may incorrectly assume the other player was the cause of the death. It's not so easy to assign blame, so I hope if someone were to read this, that an "everyone is blind because of 'eye for an eye' situation" could be avoided. Until then, I'll keep macroing mostly attended because that's how I choose to play UO... At least for this.
My tone wasn't totally neutral. But it is true that we have gone quite a bit off-topic. The Jhelom bull pens can be frustrating at times but you only have to do it once ever per character, and then you are done forever. They can slow you down, but they cannot stop you!
Crap. Now I've got that 80's refrain stick in my head. "ain't nobody gonna break a my stride. Ain't nobody gonna slow me down. Oh, No. I've got to keep on moving" Sorry for hijacking the thread at least twice.
