I've been trying to train provocation but not getting any gains whatsoever. The skill is turned up, the base skills are at 457. I have GM'd music already. Using a lap harp. Using monsters at Glow Zoo. Dont understand what Im doing wrong or why the skill isn't gaining. Any thoughts??
Are you using a sufficiently difficult monster? What is your provocation skill? You can't just provoke 2 cats together to GM.
The skill is difficulty based so you will only get to around mid 70s Provocation at the Moonglow Zoo. Also, if you are using GM instruments, they provide a bonus to success rate, which will hinder your gains. Make sure you use store bought instruments and once you hit 70+ you need to move along to Ogre Lords, Wyverns, Drakes, etc. Hard(er) stuff.
This isn't UO:R's obviously, but it's somewhat close: http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/b ... iculty.php Basically, if you have a 100% chance at success, you will no longer gain skill.
hit me up in IRC, there is a special barding house set up in Occlo i can help set up when you're ready for training should be able to GM from 72 if you're at that skill level - Jupiter
I offered to set up my Ocllo home for this purpose but if you already have one.... I guess if there is a lot of grief (i'm assuming yours is the public one I saw the other day) we can set mine up as a private one
Or alternately anyone may contact me via IRC and I can help them out as well. I maintain a setup that will go from NPC bought to GM.
Thanks for the responses! Once I reach the changing point I will contact one of the offerer's about continued training. It appears all I needed was to buy the skill and try again. I didn't buy to 30s and went straight to using skill. Looks like it matters. Gaining now... Cheers!
This is almost a bug because its not possible to train provocation 'naturally' without starting with the skill or buying it. I guess the formula has a line where it says if chance is 0% you dont gain skill and at zero skill its no gains ever. Unless! There is something you can provoke with 0 provocation. Mystery solved.
Not true at all. My first bard here, I took out to Moonglow to start working, and experienced similar to Orion. After about an hour, I moved from the pens everyone uses w/ the frost troll and harpy, and moved over to where the mongbat was in the back of the zoo and provo'd it onto one of the nearby creatures. Gained up from 0 real to ~25 real (something like 35-38 shown) in about a half hour, and moved back to the troll/harpy combo. Its all about the barding difficulty here... you want to be plus or minus 20 points of skill for what you're attempting to bard, and with provocation it is the average of both mobs that determines the barding difficulty. For example, the frost troll has a barding difficulty of ~65, and the harpy has a difficulty of ~45, leading to a net barding difficulty of 55. You'll get gains with this combo from roughly 35 til 75 -- hence why people grind to a halt in the mid-70's out at Glow Zoo.
Again, your statement was assumptions about how it works. Instead of quoting assumptions, I explained EXACTLY how it works. No assumption needed.
I just started a cartographer earlier, I was reading this and my character has 46 musicianship and 0 provocation, adjusted to 0.6. I was intrigued so I went to test on small animals, I was able to gain from provoking 2 birds. The musicianship skill check must be successful to get the provocation gain, if you fail to play the instrument there is no gain. So if your musicianship is very low, you have almost no chance of even getting a skill check in provocation, and no chance to gain.
Im also interested in GMing provo, whens a good time to reach you - Jupiter & Corruption? Im at 75ish skill, thanks!
I do still need assistance! PM me please, Im pretty new here and think I lack enough posts to be able to PM, or I would have messaged you by now
