    Hello there,

I ponder over the usefulnes of the stealth skill. You see, walking while being hidden may sounds awesome but yet you have to reuse the skill every 10 steps in order to remain hidden (which kinda blows when you want to walk around an hazardous place looking for people/mob).

I'm not really asking about a complete revamp of the skill, I find it fine that you can't walk stealthed while riding a horse (would be quite imba to see someone stepping out of the shadow running after you while being mounted) but what does the staff think about making this skill reactivate itself every X steps made?

    What do you think?

    Regards !

Presumably it should re-activate every N steps, where N is the number of steps you can take at your skill. So at skill 80.0 to 89.9, you can stealth 8 steps. So after 8 steps, if you try to take one more step, and 10+ seconds have passed since your last skill usage, it should produce a Stealth skill check, and if you succeed, you get another 8 steps? Sounds like a great ease of use improvement.

I was thinking about something like that yes, but maybe making the timer betwen the two stealth check under 10 sec (wouldn't really solve anything if you had to walk, wait 10 sec, and rewalk again). I dunno how this could be worked out, but yet you get my point.

There's two objections I would foresee to reducing/removing that timer.

One is that there is a 10-second cooldown on this skill (like most) for a reason. In my personal opinion, it serves to help a player catch a stealther near them, to give them a more fixed idea of where a stealther could be (if for example they see a door open without seeing who opened it), etc.

Two is that someone with well under GM stealth can stealth around effectively in clothes without fail (at least, on most era servers; haven't tested this here yet). So if you're stealthing in clothes, like the vast majority of stealthers do, there would be no gameplay difference between say 6 steps at 60 Stealth and 10 steps at 100 stealth.

I think the 10sec timer may need to stay, as one of the big advantages of higher Stealth skill is you get more steps per activation. Without the timer, there's less incentive to go to higher.

But yea, would be a good quality of life change for stealth.

EDIT: Beaten, like a red-headed step child.

When I was thinking about a timer reduction/removal for stealth I was thinking once you hit GM. Otherwise it would remain the same: 60% = 6 steps, etc.
