One of my favorite activities in UO is treasure hunting. There's something very fulfilling about getting that uncommon map drop and then going out to dig it up in search of a big pile of loot.

I know people have posted about adding slayer weapons to treasure chests, but I think the problem is that, except for the gold and occasional plat, the loot just plain sucks, but even worse - is almost 100% predictable. Very rarely do I get any loot worth keeping and I'm never "surprised" by any loot, even in lvl 6 maps. Now, I love what this server has done with treasure hunting, but would like to offer some improvement suggestions to see what people think.

I think the general reward on the chests is about right, but what do people think of the idea of introducing lots more variance to the loot? Things I'd like to see:

    1) Significant reduction of average gold dropped in lvl 3+ chests
    2) Increased distribution of quality of weapons (3 lvl 6 maps and not a single vanq weapon or invul armor seems quite low)
    3) Introduction of slayer weapons
    4) Increased variability of types of reward (would love to see some chests with nothing but gems and a tmap, maybe also add the occasional BOD, statue, etc)
    5) Increased variability of junk - it would be nice if not every single chest was filled to the brim with 95% junk - though this would be nice to retail for some % of chests
    6) Increased variability of defensive monster spawn - it'd be cool if instead of a heavy initial spawn followed by one spawn at a time when looting, that there was some chance to spawn multiple monsters on looting (the total number of spawns per chest would not need to change). This would prevent the more challenging chests from becoming auto easy mode after the initial break
    7) Overall average reward stays similar to what it is now

In general, these suggestions are geared towards making the treasure hunt feel more exciting, less predictable, with a more uniform distribution of challenge throughout the hunt.

Did you not get a lvl 7 map yet?

Those are coming and soon it will be the best time to be a t-hunter.

Generally, I disagree, owning a t-hunter myself. If you don't think they're rewarding enough, you can milk chests (take 100 gp at a time to have a chance to spawn extra monsters)

Cool idea! It would be cool to open a chest and find a huge stash of gems, or a weapon cache, or a mage's reagant box, etc.

Adding slayer weapons is the only thing I can get behind. Treasure Hunters have already had their pockets padded more than once on this shard. I suppose I would like to see a range implemented for the gold in the chests though. Something other than a flat 3/5/6/10k or whatever. It seems generic and stupid that it would be any exact number.

Yes, this really isn't about increasing the reward in the chests. Honestly, I'd be fine decreasing the average reward to get more of a "surprise factor". I'm just trying to make the experience of opening up (and looting) a treasure chest more exciting, instead of something that is mostly predictable.

Maybe some treasure chests have a single gold coin and a "sorry, Captain Blackbeard got here first, better luck next time" note.

Or maybe if you spring the chest trap without using Remove Trap, it explodes dropping all the contents on the ground and instantly spawning any would-be guardian immediately. You have one hour to kill all that shit and pick up your loot before it decays.
