I did not see a suggestion section for the forums. Maybe we dont have one. Sorry if this is the wrong spot. I make these suggestions as a new player looking in and I hope to not offend anyone with anything I say here. I share because I would actually like to see our population grown. 1) Have a "Suggestions" section on the forum. Regardless if you take the suggestions or not, this will help the community feel like they have an input. 2) Website. I started looking for a private UO server about two months ago and the only reason I chose one prior to this, was because it seemed well put together. The website was nice, the FAQ was organized, they didn't have sections on the front page that were under construction, and the site itself didn't feel like 1997. If we put some work into completing the website and not having Under Construction sections for the past 60+ days, it may help attract more players. Updating to a new updated website would also help get someone's eye candy going regardless if the game is 15+ years old. I can help with website if you need it and I can do it for free. No offense, but the site is dated and unfinished which is what my initial impression was of the server. We have devs that cant finish a website, how do I know they have the time to run the server? 3) Not a lot of people in Brit. It shows we have 200 members online, but maybe 4 of them are in Brit. I have seen times that people are there, but not a ton. Give people a reason to be in Brit. Maybe an 10% skill gain advantage for those that are in Brit? Maybe, the monthly platinum coins are increased if you are in Brit? Maybe also making Brit the ONLY starting City to ensure new players start there? Something to drive people there. I say this because yes, players may be afk, but at least they are in Brit and not hiding in a house somewhere macroing. It will give that nostalgic feeling when you enter Brit if people are actually around the bank. I know this is not era exclusive, but it will help drive people to Brit, which will help bring that era exclusive feeling we are missing in Brit. Again, the first thing I noticed on the server I chose before this, was the massive amounts of people at Brit Bank. So far as an outsider looking in, this is all I have seen that I would change. Sorry if this seems pompous, I do not mean it to come across that way.
It is slightly pompous and if you take a gander at patch notes since launch (we're only live a year at this point, not even), you'll see much has been done in the way of updating the site. Perhaps your criticism is more based on styling and not content, considering the fact that the content related to the shard itself is literally bar none. I have never seen another shard with as robust a data feed as is provided here. Where design is truly a subjective thing, I feel that it is nice and personally I just want function over form 9:10. Population ebbs and flows and honestly there have been varying levels at WBB. It's the trendy thief pit though so most don't like to hang out there. I've noticed since Beta that it has mostly stayed dead because of that reason, even though it's shooting ourselves in the foot when new folks arrive and see no one at the most common hangout. Regardless, I am opposed to bonuses for being there. We've had increasing amounts of players in events and the field lately and every Resist Training Session has seen more participants than the last.
When the server went live everyone was forced to start and Brit, guess what? I hate Brit with a passion and hope it burns to a pile of ash, along with its dirty inhabitants. Everyone has their own favorite location and should not get bonuses from one town, do you want all the other towns ghost towns? I have seen people out and about in Skara, Moonglow and Jhelom to name a few. I also play when it is rather quiet as I am currently in South Korea. I cant say the website looks bad or unfinished, I think it is amazing the amount of info it provides though.
1) Sure. 2) Agreed that the under construction areas should get some attention soon. A lot of the missing compendium info is actually already available in the forums. It's just a matter of finding it, cleaning it up, and getting it onto the site in some cases. Could be a great job for a volunteer... The overall design seems OK. What did you have in mind for spicing it up? (Do you have examples of how you'd like it to be?) The only thing I can think of off-hand that I dislike is how the main navigation menu on the left changes as you navigate around. 3) I think this is just a population thing. As population goes up, so too will bank sitting. Personally, I dislike Britain, and I don't banksit. Please don't make me afk there.
Again, wasnt trying to offend. I can see how change is viewed here. This server wasnt even on my list of potentials and it was based off of aesthetics of website alone. If it wasnt for Blaise telling me to check this place out I wouldnt have even came to check it out. Even after he told me to check it out I played a couple months at another very active server. I am only here because the devs did some messed up things over there. I was really just trying to help. Finding out why people arent choosing this server over others can give an idea of what to fix or improve to get that population number up. It isnt just going to happen someday. It takes work, change, improvements, and activity. Without those things you just keep down the same path. Again, I was just sharing, hoping to help give ideas to increase population. I get it. Its not wanted. Thats why theres no suggestion section. I shouldve put two and two together. Ill keep my opinions to myself in the future.
Heh, you don't have to be a grouch about it. Had you read around on the forums, Ren Disc is basically where suggestions are mostly discussed. Sometimes there's specific discussions about era in Era Disc and they can sort of intermingle. There's nothing wrong with suggestions but you really didn't bring any other than suggesting more work be done towards the same end. Have you any actual suggestions for improvement or just distaste for how it is being done? You're still not being very clear whether this is an aesthetic opinion or function. Just because the vocal majority did not agree with your suggestions does not mean they are invalid or unwelcome. Of course, catching flies with honey is always preferred so one must consider how they phrase their critique. I'd not be inclined to take heed to those with an air of superiority about them, if I were designing this site, or shard.

I am not knocking you that the website needs some areas filled/completed, maybe they needed that reminder, honestly I skip the front page most the time and go straight to the forum. You said yourself you joined the previous shard on website alone, and that didn't seem to fair so well in the end. Quit judging shards by their websites and get into the real detail of the shard, none of us are here to play on the website. The devs are amazing, top notch and do listen to all suggestions and will make changes accordingly. They put a ton of hard work into the shard and the website and are adding some sweet content for new players in the next patch, where they all start in Ocllo and learn about UO:R. You wouldn't know that because you didn't bother to open the door to the Playboy Mansion because the house looked old.
From the Board Index: Just sayin'. You are entitled to your own opinions as a UO:Ren player (we have some very opinionated players on this server), or as an outside observer. I think, Neith, the responses you have been given have been mostly fair and level-headed, considering the tone of your posts. I don't think it is a question of "fitting in". You gave your opinions and you got a few counter-opinions. I do agree that it can be frustrating when you take the time to post your thoughts and opinions to better something , only to be met with what feels like a debate... However if you feel like you don't fit in because a couple people on a message board (who aren't even the decision-makers) disagreed with you....well color me confused. The UO freeshard community is a difficult place to exist in for sensitive types. Just ignore the responses and wait for Telamon's reply.
