Custom built Intel i5-2400, 3.10ghz, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 2TB Secondary drive, Radeon 5770 2gb, running Win 7 x64. Connectivity is on wireless within my LAN, connected to a standard Time Warner 50/5 cable modem. When I stop being lazy, I have an enterprise-grade 480GB SSD that I'm likely going to add in. Are there prizes for the craziest file server on your network? Cuz I might win that one -- 12TB Storage node, with a hot spare on standby, powered by a small AMD itx-sized motherboard, 4 gb of ram and a hardware RAID card
Nice! I won't really include my work PC in the rating, considering it's not my main gaming rig. That is the home comp which is much shittier. My storage at home is a 2TB Western Digi network drive enclosure configured in a mirror for only a single TB of data, but replicated for safety
Nein, thats the beauty of a mirrored pair -- assuming at least 1 drive is recoverable, he can recover it all. There are potentials to lose all the data, but they require a number of factors to come into play. My storage node can lose one drive without failing -- which is why it has a spare ready to go, in a standboy state. The moment a failure is detected, drive #8 spins up and rebuilds the dead drive.
I play on a laptop. She's not the best in the world, but she gets the job done. btw I don't know shit about hardware, so I'm just copying the hardware info from the control panel System thingy. Lenovo 3000 Y-410 7577 Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50 GHz 4.00GB RAM running Windows 7 Professional My internet connection could be one of many that I use depending on where I am. and the speeds run the gamut from my cell phone wifi hotspot (which sometimes can't load webpages for some reason), to my friend's really fast Time Warner Cable wifi.
I run the previous gen 27in IMac w parallels. Used an old windows xp disc I had. The 27s only come fully loaded. I can dual screen easily w the high res video card. I can macro three accounts and do my photoshop work easily. Still would like a dedicated uo box at work, though.

Not to piss anyone off, but I don't speak Nerd. I play on a big ass iMac which was top of the line like 18 months ago when I bought it.
Lies and blasphemy. A self respecting nerd happily uses Apple products..... and every other product they can lay their hands on. Typed from a shared keyboard running on the above listed Windows 7 gaming computer, but on a 20" imac right next to it... while IRCing on a linux server in a datacenter, while connected to my linux server in the other room sorting out files on the file share.... THATS how a self respecting nerd does it!
What was that? I couldn't hear what you were saying over the sound of those M-type buckling springs clacking!
Who says I don't secretly play? You can find me on my naturalist owning harpies to eventually collect enough feathers to make my own feather house. Model M (aka tank) keyboards 4tw.
Here is my setup: Core2 Duo E8400 3GHz 4 GB ram GeForce GTX 650 Ti 640 GB harddisk 1 TB network storage (raid 1) Ubuntu 12.04 32bit Runs like a charm!
Oooo, maybe I win the prize for worst non-laptop computer: 4 GB RAM 150GB Raptor HD (lol...) GeForce GTX 560 Core 2 Duo E6750 Have had this thing together for almost 8 years now. Only thing that has died on me is my keyboard, but I spilled a beverage on it so I probably deserved that one. Over time, I've upgraded the video card (was an Nvidia 8800GTX) and the RAM (2GB to 4GB). It still plays modern games just fine - just got done playing Hawken and Skyrim under high settings. Don't foresee a need to upgrade anytime soon, really. Pretty awesome I love the myth about how PC gaming is so expensive. This isn't 1995 anymore where you had to upgrade every 2 years. The upgrade cycle has slowed down considerably (in large part thanks to consoles keeping requirements low, heh). Still, my console-only gamer friend continues to insist that console gaming is far and away cheaper. Quote: "PC gaming is retarded expensive. Console gaming is like one-fourth the cost of PC gaming." Since I've had this rig, he's purchased two 360's (due to an out-of-warranty RROD), a PS3, and a Wii. He's had to purchase all the silly add-ons for each system, controllers, nunchucks, w/e, and of course an Xbox Live subscription. In a few months, he will have to upgrade to next gen. And of course, there's limited backwards compatibility on all of this (PS is quite good about this, but still limited to PS titles). And of course he still had to purchase a desktop computer anyways for practical purposes. The part that makes me smile the most is that he hasn't played his consoles in months. He plays League of Legends on his non-gaming PC. Meanwhile, I'm playing old school UO. I played Mega Man X and Final Fantasy 3 a couple months ago on an emulator too. Last year I even played the ancient Master of Magic without a problem! Picked up Fallout New Vegas with all expansions for $5 on the Steam summer sale. There are so many PC-exclusive indie titles out there, you'll never play them all. Through all these years of PC gaming, I picked up some skills that eventually turned into a career. PC gaming life is good right now. Damn good. Suck it consolers!
