Of late a plague unlike any other has taken hold in evil beasts normally found lurking in the dark places of Britannia. What's more is the throngs! In swarms like insects they come through the wilderness unabated! What is their lust for? What be their need to come so close to the borders of our towns? Seemingly impervious to the effects of magic, the only success has been found in the basest levels of combat. Under physical attack the foul things suffer greatly, literally falling to pieces at the hands of adventurers brave enough to fight back! This force has come with a ferocity not seen before and resistances that leave even the most wizened elders baffled. Truly a sight to behold, these packs of plague riddled fiends show no signs of retreat. On they come, time and again leaving behind naught but more questions. What sends them hence and most importantly...for what purpose?!? The occasional fragment of blackrock has been found in the remains of these beasts. Not seen in the lands of Britannia for an age upon ages, this mysterious substance is more often thought something of simple legend. As some have heard tell, there once was a major disturbance to mages across the land, found to be caused by blackrock. Could it be a clue to the origins of this plague? It must be....but what.... Our only choice as a people is to fight, and together! Surely, if we do not, we will perish at the whims of evil, leaving behind only waste and no future for the innocent people, should any remain alive.
I have seen such attacks and am furiously investigating. My full accounts can be found here: http://www.uorenaissance.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1915 However let me summarize my encounters... - There have been several attacks on the larger towns, and a few originating in graveyards. - The beasts are very vulnerable to melee weapons, even to one of a new warrior... but seem to be immune to magics. Bewarned! The plagued beasts will quickly surround you leaving no escape. Tread lightly. I have been drawing some away from the larger group then killing as not to get surrounded and face certain death. - They are usually led by a captain, an ogreous looking beast when disposed, the attack subsides. - Rumors of blackrock shards are being found however my investigations continue on the origin and properties of said substance. - The town crier wails out when these attacks occur (both ingame and in IRC) thus if you are available, please lend assistance to the cause! The plague must be disposed of.
Nice screenie man! Look at how good my cloak looks!!!!! Indeed mysterious. If we look to the history of Britannia, we can see easily the effects blackrock has had on mages in the past. Also, wasn't blackrock used to craft armor and weapons in Ascension? Let's hope we can find out what to do with it before the plague takes us all!
I'm uncertain, just passing what I know of the attacks. I thought the first attack was from Snake's Pass. I've asked for info and any you can share, please do.
Once again the town criers called out that there was an attack. The forces were moving from Britain towards Skara Brae, as I predicted. While this may be coincidence, my theory of this plague moving south may be correct. During the plague’s march, they did not appear to be going west rather south. A false report from the scouts perhaps… As we fought them, they were not only more numerous in number than the previous attack, but stronger as well. Again, magics seemed not to affect them thus weapons were the best tact. My guess this is a result of the Blackrock plaguing. Given the recurring movement to the south, I do not think an attack on Skara Brae will be next. Rather this plague will continue moving south.
There was another plague attack on Trinsic the other day and a purported on Yew where this fester may have began. Given the plague's movement, my theory of it moving South was in err. Here are the places of the attacks known to me: I sought Lord British's counsel however he was not in the ruling chambers therefore decided to research the libraries for anything on Blackrock. Unfortunately, I did not find any clues in the books, stories, and tomes within the Castle. Today, I came across a piece of Blackrock shard, apparently being proudly displayed by the owner. If an evil necromancer is behind the plague, this must be his residence. Notice the freshly dug grave! I've also given some consideration to this plague for which we don't know why is afflicting the lands. If the Blackrock is the cause and the inflected beasts are immune to magics... is this because of the Blackrock itself? Since the Captains of these attacks are reported to carry this mysterious rock, as if controlling the hordes... would stealing it during an attack cure the afflicted? These arcane pieces of evil rock may all need to be destroyed in order for it stop.
