Loss of family, loss of a marriage.... and every time i've tried to make a return here things have just continued to pile on. Just stuck in a spot of not knowing where to start... 2 years ago i quit and deleted everything i had (characters... loot... everything...). All i have to come back to is a 7x bard i made recently on a return and two tamers in the works. I guess what i'm looking for is a "state of the shard" to kind of get caught back up.
Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles man. I hope life takes a turn in your favor. Things are going right along here on UOR, soon to be 8th anni followed by Halloween kicking off another event season.
Great! you should check out the new UOR discord channel. Loads of us old PS members are still around there.
Welcome back Fullmetal One's assessment is pretty accurate however I dont think we are headed towards 200 active accounts. We are on a slight downswing if you look at the population stats here: http://www.uorenaissance.com/serverstatus, but that happens every summer. Currently, there are no events aside from player run. I of course am still running the fishing tournaments, Keza has been cranking out some great events, and other groups are hosting various adventures: http://uorforum.com/forums/player-run-events.8/. I expect we will see an uptick in the population at the beginning of September with the 7th Anniversary followed by the holiday events that last through April. A positive of late was moving from IRC ro Discord a couple of months ago which helped bring the community together. Hope to see you around.
I casted Armageddon in Ultima 7: The Black Gate and Batlin had this to say Batlin looks at you and his gaze returns to the Armageddon winter storm. "Many years ago, Avatar, I went to Skara Brae, the ghost city. The way the world is now reminds me of that dead place." "In Skara Brae I had a spiritual experience so profound that I had never spoken of to another soul. I would like to share that experience with thee now, Avatar." "There at Skara Brae I saw a man who was called The Tortured One. I asked this dead man, pray tell, what is the answer to the question of Life and Death? He gave me no reply, and I asked him again. I beseeched him to impart some small parcel of wisdom upon me." "What is the answer to the question of Life and Death?! He said nothing, but in his eyes...In his eyes I could see, Avatar, that he could not answer me for there was no answer to give. No answers to the question of Life and Death! It was then I understood. No meanings! No virtues! No values!!! I commend thee, Avatar, for reaching that same liberating illumination!"
The state of the server is subjective. Server population 4-5 years ago was 450. Currently, we cap out around 550 and maxed around ~800 during the Valentine's 2018 event. During the last event, St. Pattys, the server pop was up near ~600. I would expect the same numbers if not more for these next string of events. We gotta stop telling people PvP is dead when it's not and especially if you don't PvP. There is still lots of PvP through champing, IDOCing, and general fighting. IMO, this is one of the best times to return and get prepared for what's next.
I started here with a few family members that introduced me to the shard and I fell in love with it. Since they have quit, I've been on my own for a while and it seems like it's going to stay that way. I don't mind it at all but, aside from a few, I think there is a lacking of community. While I have met some really great people who have helped me and gave me good advice, it was only a few. Seems like if you're not with the "In" crowd it's pretty hard to find regulars. Holiday Events are great and one of the main reasons I try to stay active. However, that's also an issue because spawns are regularly camped by people who are playing 3 characters at once, might be the reason why the numbers are a little inflated. This ruins the experience for me honestly because it seems like if you're not running 3 tamers and gating them to secure a holiday spawn, you fall behind. I understand that everyone plays and gets enjoyment form different things but it's very demoralizing at times. PK's seem to be a little more active now as I'm getting killed fairly more often. Not complaining, I love running for my life and for the most part, they rez up and even give you regs to recall away. Little odd that the only thing I'm liking now is getting killed in 1 second but, it reminds me that there are people out there still and if the only person I'm going to run into is a PK then I'll take it. All in all the GM's and individuals I've met have been good to me. I'll most likely always be on here even though it's frustrating at times.
Have you checked into getting into a good active guild. there are quite a few on here that are active daily. Also, i get the frustration, but if it was a walkthrough breeze, it wouldnt be worth playing right? glad to have ya on here!
IDOCing is very good for PvP and the shard itself purged those that just complained. I understand that there were individuals that have lived through years of empty promises, and how that could get frustrating. All in all there is still plenty to do plenty of people to interact with, and all you have to do is find it is in UO that you love. I mean why else would all of us be playing a 20 year old game on a retro server? We want to replay our hay days and feel the rush of constant jeopardy we put ourselves into anywhere in sosaria.
My current "keto" diet is not UO listed.. but yet I Everlast And I was joking about the Keto, I'm vegan
