UOR FACTION LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT

  The premise here is pretty straight forward. We'll do signups now until end of January. Anyone who signs up will be signing up for the UOR Faction League. What is the UFL? Imagine CTF but on the faction scale.
  
  
  
  Why bother? No incentives? The guard duration is too long? Indeed, most folks would acknowledge this. As is the factions system is currently dead. It has been used in the recent past and lead to some pretty gnarly fights. Ultimately without real incentives and with guard timers too long interest is lost over time. So why now?
  
  
  
  If nobody is using the system there's less incentive to improve it. Thanks mostly to @Quick we had a pretty major overhaul to the factions last year, moving the Minax and Shadowlords bases to towns - putting all 4 factions on level playing fields. This change was part of what could be more, and it wouldn't take much to improve. Some incentives for winning factions and decreased guard timers would drastically improve the system and make it more playable.

  Draft style selection. Whoever signs up will be brought in to the UOR Faction League discord. Some groundwork:
  
  
  1. No looting - keep the fights going!
  2. No multi boxing - c'mon now!
  3. Soft rule - try to stick to one toon, except for thieves (as thieves are needed for sigils)
  
  
  That's it! We'll have 4 leaders assigned (1 for each faction) who will at the end of January select members for their faction draft style. Faction leaders have not been hard set, but so far we do have @merlin8666 on board to lead TB. @Leeloo has also expressed some interest. It'd be great if Lincecum and / or @Ron Jeremy were on board to rally a faction as well.
  
  
  
  Will this take off? Who knows, but it's worth a shot. The factions system has big potential and hopefully with some renewed interest it'll light a fire under management's ass to make the needed changes to make it better. Now for some Q&A..

  1. What if I'm on a team where I don't know anyone?
  2. Good! There's some very interesting people out there, go fight alongside them! If for some reason things don’t work out the faction leaders can work out a trade.
  1. What build(s) should I be using?
  2. Good gravy, that's a loaded question. Factions requires thieves to steal sigils, is supported greatly by crafters, faction TRAPS are definitely a thing, on TOP of all the fighting. Take your pick, there's really no wrong answer (except tamers). If you're undecided check with your faction leader to see what might be most helpful to the team.
  1. I have no PVP experience, can I still join UFL?
  2. Absolutely! This is specifically to encourage PVP for all UOR players of all flavors. Get out there!
  1. Can I bring a red to the team?
  2. Yes, but that's strongly discouraged. A lot of faction fighting takes place in towns so you'd be at a big disadvantage.
  1. Can I bring a tamer to the team?
  2. No.
  1. How will the faction leaders select players to their team?
  1. We'll use the discord channel after establishing pick order and select, draft style.
  1. I missed signups, can I still join?
  2. Yep. It's unlikely we'll have even teams so adding in players after the fact is no biggy - just reach out!
  1. How bout some incentives in the meantime?
  2. Haven't ironed out details, but do plan on working out some kind of rewards for factions based on kicking ass.
  1. Can I be one of the faction leaders?

Oh yeah, speaking my language. UO:R of old produced some legendary faction back and forth battles.... I'd say CoM4Lyfe, but doesn't really work in a draft league Excited to see where this goes, and I'll try drum up some interest with some old vets I played with. Looking forward to it!

how do we find who is in control of each of the factions?

Last wave of factions was my first intense PVP experience after ages playing here.. Not last much but was a blast for me... great opportunity to learn... the no loot aspect is awesome and just one rule I will add (just one pet if you are a tamer).

We had such great weeks of salty free battles... put me in on this!
