Curious everyone's choice for favorite town and why? When you need to bank or do whatever in town where do you? Why? And what town do you absolutely hate? Why? My favorite town is West Brit, probably from my 14 years on OSI and I know where everything is, just feels like home. Second favorite is Bucc's den, did all my smithing there when the rule was "go to low populated area to maximum gains" on OSI. Town I absolutely don't like is Yew, to me it feels "dark" and gloomy like a true Felucca town. Everyone on here seems to love it though. So what about everyone else?
I've always been a fan of Skara Brae. .. it has basically everything, and it doesn't take forever to run from one end to the other.
West Brit is and will always be my starting town, sentimental since I started there as a kid. My favorite town for music is Nujelm, favorite bank is Yew Bank roof because it was the first bank roof rune I got on UOR, and finally Ocllo is my favorite town to drop wine pitchers and various fun items for the community
Moonglow... always a good flow to it for me, has its charms through out the whole island (teleporters, telescope, transport to T2A, graveyard, zoo, etc...)
Gawd. I've hated Vesper since playing on OSI. I was too poor for a horse, and I have bad memories of having to run over bridges from one end to the other. It took forever.
Moonglow, only thing between the stables and bank is a blacksmith shop which I have likely used over 1000 repair deeds at on my dexxers Also bought out all the regs vendors from moonglow to the t2a mage teleporter many many times.
My first choice is moonglow, followed by Ocllo. I don't really use many others unless it's for a stable or only the bank and that's normally when meeting for a trade. I don't think I have ever actually gone to wind. My first memory of UO is running around Vesper and the surrounding area for the first 3 days till I ran past someone's house who decided to run out, paralyze me and kill me with a blade spirit.
If that isn’t a “welcome to ultima online” moment, I don’t know what is. I’ve always been partial to Moonglow and Wind - although I much preferred Wind when the park was truly a park - with deer and animals and the occasional Orc or Ettin - not what it is now. Just unfortunate.
Serpent's Hold, now that it has a gate. Bank and stable conveniently located. Not too busy. Slightly hostile environment. These things make the place comfy.
I've spent THOUSANDS of hours of my life bank sitting at West Brit bank from OSI to other various private servers over the past 20 some years. Wouldn't change a thing. Still reppin it hard every damn day
OMG.. on OSI, my friend talked me into how cool Serps Hold is. He offered to gate me there (only had like 40 magery at the time), so I took the chance. That was a terrible mistake. Tons of snakes (no healing) and this was BEFORE the fire cave was added.
I actually use several different towns depending on the character I'm playing.... Usually Moonglow, Jhelom, or Skara. I guess if I had to narrow it down to one "main" town, though, it would definitely be Moonglow. And for the same reason as the OP. When I started playing way back in 97-98, the town I got my start in was Moonglow. I used to go up to the docks and fight rats/large rats until I got strong enough to take on the wolves, bulls, and grizzlies out in the forest. After a while I saved up enough gold to purchase a boat and I would sail (this was before I discovered recall) up to Deceit and battle skeletons, zombies, etc. Nowadays I still use Moonglow as my base of operations. It's got an animal trainer, mage shop, and tailor relatively close to the bank, so I can resupply, restock, stable, etc. But I have characters like my lumberjack/axe fighter who is based in Skara, my tailor who is from Yew, and other such RP related purposes.
What's "Not" my town.... Minoc, Magincia, Serp's Hold, Vesper (unless I have an rp or quest related reason). The layout of these towns isn't very convenient. I'm not a huge fan of Trinsic, though there are some AWESOME rp reasons to use it. As a standard operations base, though, it's too sprawling and hard to navigate. I
Britain has a special place in my heart. Its where I spent almost all of my time when I first started playing UO. I felt quite sad when I came here and saw little to no action at Brit, but made sense that the center shifted to Ocllo. Also love Minoc, there´s something in its layout that I like very much. Also, as Brit it was the second town I discovered and spent lot of time there, doing my first mining adventures. Trinsic, Moonglow, Jhelom - These are cities im very fond of.
