Why is it that you think you can block off areas such as Wyvern Island, and places like Serp Bank with your ships? Do you feel like you are entitled, or does it make you feel "special"?
I'm not a fan of boat blockades. I'd be in full support of any mechanism that increases wear when parked in close proximity to other boats.
It is not affecting me personally, however I don't think people should have the ability to block off any areas whatsoever, from other players...period. Just curious what these folks reasoning is. I would be in full support of having said ships impounded.
May as well bring back tents and adjacent housing placement if such nonsense with ships is going to be permitted... See second paragraph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Ultima_Online#Housing
If I block a massive plot with a small house, isn't that basically the same thing? (actually much cheaper than a blockade) I could be doing it for extortion, revenge, or just because I'm a dick. In my opinion, that's just UO.
Yes, but your house is subject to decay without being refreshed whereas boats are not. That's the issue I believe. Put a decay timer on boats that are in the water just as you would with houses.
Boats decay at the same rate as houses. You have to refresh them by holding the key and then clicking the gangplank. Often people will be actively using their boats and forget to refresh them. Then this happens: And now that we're talking about this, I just remembered I forgot dry-dock my boat a couple weeks ago. Dammit RIP Estelle Getty
The difference is that you cannot block off access to entire portions of the game area with houses. Houses require ample spacing around them and cannot be used to prevent access to anywhere (Wyvern Isle as example)
Ah, I didn't know boats decayed. That's good, but I do agree with Blaise on this one. It's one thing to use housing to hold land or be a dick, but you can't use them to completely prevent everyone else from accessing portions of the game as you can with boats.
The poor wyverns, I think at the moment you can't even get a boat close enough to teleport onto the island haha so if you don't have a rune no wyvern island for you. Poor things just get tormented by bards their whole life.
But they don't because no one knows who owns those boats and no one shares access for bards in training. Thus, the entire thing is just turned to shit by some asshole(s). Hooray for UO.
Yeah this is sad, that isle should be used. If anyone needs a place to train voking in the meantime hit up Wodan's sailor house just ask for access in IRC
In era I know there were signs along the mountains where people would boat mine saying something to the effect that the boats would be removed or gms would delete them if people blocked the mountains. (I can't remember phrasing)
The apparent building I live in has a similar issue with people leaving their bikes. So once a year they give you a week's notice to remove your bike for one day. They clean the bike room and toss any bikes left there.
Agreed. I'm often all in favor of people being jerks to each other (it's just a game after all) but this mechanic is plain old stupid.
There was a thread a while back that offered some clever solutions for future patching but Telamon can't fix all our problems. The really sad thing is that even vigilante justice can't do the trick.
I have a solution! The whole drop anchor thing right? - Make it so you can't anchor a boat within so far of another boat. (tie it to the tillermen?) - If a ship is not anchored it decays really fast.
what about the option to mount a plat cannon on your ship, then when boats have passed the 3 day mark you can blow them out of the water
