There was a random timer on OSI? I don't think so but I was never into IDOCs then either. I'm fairly certain @Chris would know for sure but I don't think altering mechanics to suit the people unwilling to go the distance for success is the answer to this "problem". Like I said...the dominating group literally just lost a prime tower spot the other night. It was a fun fight from my perspective and I don't really even touch loot but it's not impossible to dethrone the kings.
Despite popular belief, they are players and like to play the game but aren't going to short themselves on potential success with legal botting being a 'thing'.
I IDOCed on pacific. I've seen houses drop 5 minutes after going idoc and houses that took the full 24hrs In fact decay times were random until 2015. About half way down! I can't edit the picture on my phone.
lol, Publish 89.....bro, this shard taps out at 22.... http://uorforum.com/threads/ultima-online-relevant-publish-archive.52/
I think you guys are looking at this all wrong. Do IDOC times have variance on UOR? No, not really significant ones. Did IDOC times have variance on OSI? Yes, but they also had crazy server down times, slowdown, and other problems that caused it. Should IDOC times have variance on UOR? Guess that's a matter of opinion, you know some people will absolutely hate that idea, but I imagine most think it's more fair. Maybe intelligent forum discussions are in order for this, but let's face it, it's not going to happen here in this thread. Is the IDOC group terrible for doing what they do? No, of course not. Like mentioned here, you can do it too if you want. I think it's super lame to afk it, but I won't blame you for doing that if it's possible and not against the rules (Is it?). Is the IDOC group wrong for reskilling @WoblinTheGoblin ? Absolutely not, he could just "not res" and go somewhere else. There's never a reason to complain about reskilling if you can avoid it. Is @WoblinTheGoblin a horrible player for his vulgar words and so we shouldn't care if he quits? No, that silly, you can't know that from a screenshot. This is the internet this should be no surprise to you all. He might be a perfectly nice person. Blaise has said some terrible things, but despite that I am pretty sure he never intends it as hate speech and seems pretty okay as a person. People say things they don't mean when they are angry. So what's the problem? The problem is there are IDOCs to begin with. People quitting isn't a good sign, and this post certainly isn't a good sign. As a server we should do what we can do reduce the number of IDOCs that occur on actual homes that are actually used by actual players and not just place-holders. A player is unhappy with the mechanics, and maybe you don't agree with his opinion or think that the reason for him quitting is legitimate, but you should still find it unfortunate that it came to this since every single person, good or bad, is another "quest line" in the game that you have the opportunity of exploring. @BlackEye made a great post that Woblin might find helpful. Other's commented on how he can handle the IDOC group or simply grief them. Even more of you commented on the mechanics and how (perhaps) the lack of an AFK check on item-id use should be addressed. These are all great, constructive comments. What we primarily got here though is people trying look benevolent but coming out condescending, and other people that dislike them trying to make them look malicious. Neither of these things are necessarily true or helpful. Relax guys, it's just a game. Making this thread more popular than it already is will accomplish nothing.
Hehe, alternatively, what if there was a countdown to the exact collapse on each sign. IDOC crew would have an easier time. Anyone who wants to join would know when to get there. Pax would have a field day and PvP groups would go crazy against each other. Talk about open competition..
I'm willing to put aside rivalry with anyone who wants to take on the IDOC Crew. My only stipulation is you must have 3 tamers and triple box them with me at the IDOCs. I figure 5+ players triple boxing would do the trick. PS: this isnt even about the loot to me, anyone whom I help can have ALL the loot.
I don't understand why you think you are more entitled to the idoc than anyone else. They came with more numbers. You were outnumbered. Are you saying you want the mechanics changed to benefit a solo idocer over a crew? There are a lot of things in this game that a well organized group can do better than a solo person. I don't think we need to change the rules to prevent that. Either get your own crew, or find something else in the game to do.
As I recall it, the timer was a mess on OSI. Just like the spawning rares it was the Server reset time that usually dropped houses. The UOR IDOC mechanic is as good as you can hope for.
Depends if you like structure like we have now of a house dropping 17 hours 12 minutes 3 seconds and 21 milliseconds after it goes idoc Or if you like randomness like on osi. I love the random idea where if you go get a glass of water and the house drops you've wasted 10+ hours. That's era accurate and how we all used to do it.
Was this true even before that very late publish you referenced? I can't remember. I could have sworn the timers were the same in 99/2000 as they are here... Can anyone confirm?
I'm sure there was a timer but due to server resets it was totally random as you'd never really know how far back it reset. It added a lot of spice.
