70 Magery or 100 Magery for a Warrior template?

Finally got my stat spread sorted out, no more stat grinding needed.



I'm hoping to GM Macefighting, Tactics, and Anatomy before my Young status ends on Sunday. Gonna spend the remaining time grinding Gazers and Rat Mages for resist gains and bank the reagents/potions for later.

Even though I was never a PvPer, I used to like town invasions where monsters would come in and there would be no guards, allowing for mass murder on its streets. I was only 10 years old when it happened, but I remember an event during the live T2A era over 20 years ago where Trinsic was raided by the undead. There were skeletons, zombies, liches all over the place murdering people left and right. And because there were no guards, PKs were allowed to come in and add to the slaughter as well. It lasted for about three days, and on the eve of the events final day, Trinsics main street was marched upon by a green Lich that was named, and closely followed by an entourage of lich lords, mummies, all manner of high-tier undead, and everybody within sight of this posse was roasted almost immediately. I was one such victim, and when I came back for my meager loot, I couldn't even retrieve it because there were literally HUNDREDS of corpses in the street, piled on top of one another.

I've never seen anything like it in UO since then, absolute carnage on a grandiose scale.

I had seen plenty of town invasions after that, mostly low-end mobs like Trolls and Ettins patroling the streets of Vesper. The Trinsic incident was something far beyond this, a complete, unprecidented UO bloodbath. It was so glorious to have witnessed such a historic event, and I have trouble using this word to describe something so chaotic, but it was very thorough.

Found another platinum this morning, I think looking at the rewards that I'm mainly interested in a +AR cloak and robe (Shadow Iron probably) and an ethereal mount, so I've got a lot of saving up to do.

Anatomy is GM'd, might have Macing GM'd by tonight, after I get home from volunteering at the blood bank. Gonna stop collecting Spined Hides and Bones once I have 1,000 of each, then deed them and see if I can sell them for something.

I won't have mining on this template, so I'm still wondering if it's worth my time to go hunting colored elementals via a Gargoyles Shovel.

Edit: Nvm, just GM'd Macing. GM Tactics will be my goal by tomorrow.

I actually just saw a Keza video on battle mining, it’s a really cool template and it’ll probably be my next character, as a resource gatherer for a crafter.

I probably won’t bother with a house until I get my crafter going, and it’ll likely be a Sandstone Patio, as that was my preferred home during AoS.

After Young ends I’m gonna stock some reagents and get Magery/Resists going.

So I don’t need any Mining skill to dig up ore elementals? I wouldn’t be able to smelt their ore without it though, right?

So if I want to battle mine I can just bank the ore and transfer it to my blacksmith later then?

That would work, but the template Keza was working with still seemed like a really cool idea, basically an axe dexxer with mining and lumberjacking, dedicated to resource farming. I would love to have a character dedicated to that at some point.

A little under 100 on Anatomy, Tactics, etc, and only a little Magery.

The last bit of your post is a wee bit alarming. If it doesn't have many other uses then it must not be a very good template, and what I wanted out of this template is something good at PvM, something that is capable of hunting big game without taming or musicianship, as I don't like either one at all. Something active in combat and easily capable of handling mid-level monsters with melee alone, but ready to break out Blade Spirits, Energy Vortexes or Daemons when the big stuff comes in.

If the template I had planned is no good at PvE, then what should I do with it? Convert it into a PvP Mage (Magery/Eval/Med/Resist/Swords/Tactics/Wrestling)? I can't imagine dexxers are that weak in Renaissance...

Well, I don't know what is classified as a high-level enemy on this server, but I would rank Ogre Lords as one such mob, and I figure that's a prime real estate target for this build with the use of Blade Spirits. Lich Lords should be doable with a good Silver weapon, and Blood Elementals with Elemental Ban, maybe even Dragons. That's some of the game I was intending to hunt at some point, once I have the weaponry needed to take them on, and I consider all of those to be high-level.

Enemies like White Wyrms, Balrons, etc are above what I'd even consider high-level, and I'd have to be a lunatic to try and fight enemies like that on a Dexxer. I'd also avoid fighting anything that could inflict Deadly or Lethal poison. DEFINITELY NOT ACID ELEMENTALS.

But I absolutely loath taming, not just for how boring it is in PvM but for the work you have to put in to get your creatures battle-ready and the micromanagement that goes into caring for your pets.

Anyway, if this build is good at battle mining and fighting ore elementals, then that will definitely be good chunk of the game I hunt with it, and I'll just bank the ore for another character that takes up mining. Or give it to guildies or something.
