Have the armor robes/cloaks been fixed yet?

What I mean is, does the AC from the platinum-purchased metal robes and cloaks actually benefit you now? Or is it still borked and likely never to be fixed?

I'm contemplating putting plat towards them at some point, and buying a blessed deer mask in shadow iron hue, but only if:

    A) The armor on said items actually works, and
    B) (especially for the Blessed Deer Mask) these items are indestructible

Is still not clear if the defensive clothes really give armour, since they are indestructible..
And blessed deer masks are not indestructible.. if you dont fortify them they will get broken

Doesn't work and I dont believe that robes / cloaks will ever work for added AR. *Buckle in for a course on UO armor*

Going back to some of the old Ultima Games even before Ultima Online, armor is calculated per-piece. This means, if your hit there is a 50% chance to get hit in the chest. When hit in the chest, the ONLY armor calculated is the AR on your chest piece. There is some breakdown (I dont have it) of all the %chance to get hit in the arm, head, neck, and so on. The slot for robes and cloaks are not on that list. Therefore, they will never be hit and never help you. Your total armor rating shown in the stats next to HP, mana, dex and all that is actually pointless. Building a character up to 70 armor rating with invul plate or bone armor is not needed. Just wear a higher AR chest piece and your good to go.

Other more custom UO servers have altered all this at a VERY deep code level to make it so hits calculate your total AR. UOR would never alter the mechanic though, this is a classic server and will keep the classic mechanics.

Well, I'll probably never go for either a defensive robe/cloak or a special-color deer mask then, if the robe/cloak doesn't benefit you or the deer mask isn't indestructible. Any and all platinum I earn will likely go to an ethereal mount instead, and maybe an ice blue or ice green robe/cloak, if ice colors even exist here.

Truth be told, and I'll probably get crucified for saying this, but though I like UO:R, it wasn't my first choice. My favorite UO era of all time is Age of Shadows, mostly for Paladins, the refinements to combat, and the Gauntlet and the chance to acquire Artifacts from them. But I can't seem to find any AoS servers to play on, so I, for lack of better words, *make do* with UO:R.

Just for reference, what articles of clothing, blessed or otheriwse, *are* considered indestructible in the sense that they cannot be targeted by an attack?

You are correct, I believe the following items are more or less "indestructible" just because they never take damage:
    shoes/boots
    sash
    robes
    cloaks
    earrings
    rings
...likely a few more im missing.

I would guess half aprons too, and probably doublets, but I'm probably wrong about one of those.

What about *ice* colored cloth (ice blue, ice green, etc), does that exist on the server?

No neon hues here on UOR. Your welcome to search any hues like 1151 on the main website to see whats out there. Some anniversary colors are more vibrant looking. Quick did a pretty extensive post on 3000 hues if you want to look at that.

I dont know that there is a single place that lists all anniversary hues or all rare hues. It is alot to keep track of, so at the end of the day just find something you like and wear it :)

I like shadow iron hues, hence why I wanted to get a blessed deer mask in such a hue and was willing to pay the outrageous price they generally command, but not if it has the potential to break. And please don't counter with "just use fortifying powder", a blessed item only has value to me if it's indestructible and doesn't require maintenance. Set it and forget it, in other words.

Alas, I'll probably just stick to gm barbed leather suits and exceptional warhammers (or +25/power warhammers), repair the power warhammers and just discard/replace the gm stuff as needed.

haha, thats what about 80% of players currently do, myself included. I only use magic invul armor on my Ironman toons that travel into isolated instances where the armor cannot be taken by PKs. Repairing it is hardly ever needed.

I actually have wasted plat on one of those robes before thinking it mattered lol. The fix would probably be pretty easy, just have it check for the cloak slot as well when damage it hit to the chest and add the AR value to what is already there for the chest. But it's probably not a priority and will never be fixed.

These should be removed from the store tbh, it's misleading and has/will likely result in players wasting plat for something that does not provide the stated benefit.
I was going to invest in the robe/cloak but ended up checking on discord and that's how I found out that they're bricked

Yeah. Either removed or named properly. "Ore Colored Robe and Cloak"

Do you know if there are any plans to make changes to armor mechanics to make armor-based clothing function properly?

Knowing the way armor functions now makes me wonder how the Arch-Protection spell works in tandem with armor, since it supposedly just adds a flat amount of AC based on the casters magery. And it's one of my core spells in PvM:

    Arch-Protection
    Bless
Cure/Arch Cure (if Arch Cure is more effective against stronger poisons)
    Greater Heal
Reactive Armor (if it works with Barbed Leather, or any armor for that matter)
    Magic Reflection
Unlock (supposedly unlocks Level 2 chests at 100 Magery?)
    Teleport
    Poison (cheap DPS in PvM)
    Magic Trap
    Recall
    Gate Travel
    Mark
    Invisibility
    Blade Spirits
    Energy Vortex
    Resurrection

Of course, I still don't know exactly how some of these buffs work in tandem with each other, namely Reactive Armor and Arch-Protection, and especially Reactive Armor and Magic Reflection.

Not sure about arch-protect added AR. I do know that reactive armor and magic reflect add a temporary melee/magic reflect shield. That shield system operates outside any AR ratings as its hit 100% of the time until it drops.

Highly doubt any changes to AR, spells effecting AR or anything like that would ever be changed. Telamon has no interest in "competing" with other servers doing new things with UO mechanics. He made an amazing classic server, and made it very clear that its remaining classic.

Then I'd agree with Maximus, that the defensive clothing in the Platinum Store either needs to be renamed, or preferably removed completely (or swapped for more exotic colors like ice blue or ice green, but that might also go against Telamon's classic philosophy). It's misleading and I'm sure at least a few players have probably expended some platinum on those items thinking they confer a benefit, only to be disappointed after the fact.

Surely it wouldn't be difficult to change probably no more than one or two lines of code to have it add the AR value to the chestpiece, problem solved.

It would also have to be without the robe/cloak incurring damage and potentially breaking.

Yep. If I still had Run/ServUO installed I wouldn't mind playing around with it to see how easy of a fix it would be. But even if its a super simple fix, not gonna happen anyway.
