Ok, So I just started playing and started a fisher. I have read through the guides but I don't see how I can make money raising my fishing? I want to take time off to raise my Magery, but that will obviously cost a lot of gold. It looks time consuming to see the fish steaks, am I missing something? I really just want to create a Fisherman/Treasure hunter. Thoughts? Thanks for any help! GoB
Fishing at GM can be very profitable, more so if you're using 3 fishers at once. Nets = 2.5-3k each Mibs = 1-2k each (more if you fish them up) Maps = 1k each AMIBS: Red = 60k+ Blue = 65k+ Purple = 90k+ Green = 100k+ Factor in a Zyler tournament and you're on your way to making lots of gold. Keep in mind that fishing is as close to zero risk as possible. So, while you're not making the gold you could be making by farming Bloods, it's still good "Netflix Gold." *Netflix Gold: The art of playing UO and making gold while paying more attention to Netflix than to the game.
I guess what I am saying, is how do you make money on the way to GM so I can train my Magery? Does that make sense? Because if I GM right now, I won't have money to train up Magery, buy a boat, ect...to go after treasure maps. Sorry for the newb questions GoB
You're really not going to make money while training fishing. It's not a big money maker until you hit GM and start consistently fishing up serpents in deep water.
When I started here, while I trained fishing with 2 accts, I created a miner on the 3rd acct. I mined ore and made chainmail coifs sold them to blacksmith and used that gold to buy regs in order to train magery. It is a grind and you have to switch back and forth to check the fishers. I believe at the time it was ok to fish from shore unattended. Not sure if that's legal or not. I'm sure someone can confirm. Either way you can still mine as a way to make gold. I'd be happy to go fishing with you sometime to help get at least one of your chars GM. Then after GM I'll let you use an extra boat so you can start fishing up mibs/nets/maps. That will in turn get you some gold coming in to finance everything else. Though I would get your magery on the fisher to 75ish to kill the serps that will pop up. I'm home for the next few weeks healing from a hip replacement so I'm flexible for going fishing at a time good for you.
TLDR Question: How do I make money as a fisherperson? Answer: Go play! It's really easy to get lost in the minutia when it comes to making a character. All the planning, the dwelling, the analysis paralysis... thinking of what could possibly be? Live in the now. You already stated your objective: Make fisherperson/treasure hunter. This is can be done with a relatively simple set of skills if you intend to complete the level 1 maps obtained by fishing. (note: anything higher I recommend a different character). Many will suggest making three. Yes, eventually that's not necessarily a bad idea. However... Perhaps sip the game for a bit and focus on the one for now. Build your foundation Fishing Magery Meditation Evaluate Intelligence Magic Resistance 500 points down, 200 to go Options: tracking - scan the seas for opportunities (that rhyme though!) item identification (luxury skill - train it up to get you started then drop later and place on a "house servant") musicianship provocation - pit serpent against serpent - discordance - debuffs are nice too You asked, "How do I make money as a fisherman?" Well, go play the game. http://uorforum.com/threads/new-to-ultima-online-start-here.3182/#post-21025 This is part one of an excellent guide. Scroll down to the "Corp Por" section and go actively be a mage! Sure, you can go cut cloth, or make a mining character, or a miriad of other things but, while you are doing that... what's your fisherperson doing? Nothing, that's what. Put that main to work! Grab some regs, get out there and kill animals for their hides for starters. Work your way up to things that drop gold, reagents, and other items.
