Welcome to The Great Council, where we strive for the betterment of Britannia. The formation of The Great Council comes at a time when the Realm finds itself without the rulership and guidance of our good Lord British. Without his wisdom and ruling hand, it falls to the Great Council and the citizens of Britannia to tend to the many issues at hand. The Great Council seeks to engage players both new and old with the overarching goal of promoting community as well as overall community retention. The Great Council greatly encourages Role-Play. The Purpose of the Great Council The primary purpose of the Great Council is to serve as a platform for events, quests, and missions, as well as fund and provide public works. The Great Council has a mission vendor set up in Ocllo behind the stable (visit Marcus there to see what jobs are available!), and will provide other sources of quests and missions as well. Mayorships Players interested in helping the Great Council may do so by becoming an appointed mayor of a town. The mayor of said town is responsible for hosting at least one event per month (it is completely up to the mayor what this is - a fight night, summoned creature duels, poetry contest, dance-off, who knows - use your imagination!) and should at least be somewhat active in the town. If possible, the mayor should increase activity in this town on a more regular basis. Resources will be provided to the mayors of towns from the Great Council treasury. Public Works The Great Council currently has the following Public Works underway: The King's Library (Link) - Curated by the Steward and maintained by Gyles the Librarian, the King's Library is the shard's most comprehensive collection of player-made books. Once the fix comes out fixing books being able to be read and not edited while on display, it will be open for all to view. The Britain Herald (Link) - The publication which details news of The Great Council as well as news from across the Realm. All proceeds from the purchases of the Britain Herald go towards supporting The King's Library. Mission Vendor (Link) - A fun and engaging way to make money, get starting equipment, or just have a good time! These missions range in difficulty from easy to hard, and there are additional group and special quests. Rewards vary depending on difficulty of the mission and all of them have bonus objectives which can yield higher rewards. The Writing Renaissance (Link) - An on-going project to help preserve player and organization legacies in the game, as well as generate additional books for the King's Library. Want to get involved? The Great Council welcomes players who are interested in helping generate more activity in the Realm and help provide public services to the people. If you are interesting in being appointed mayor of a town, or have an idea for a public works, then please do let me know! Thank you kindly for your time! -Lord Alex Caember, The King’s Steward *Sir Martius expressing his dissatisfaction with the Orcs*
Hi, everyone! My name is Kenneth and I call myself Ravnkjell-Eyr in-game and on IRC and forums. I'm 32 years old and I'm a complete newbie when it comes to UO, but I have already been fortunate enough to join the guild after being literally found on the street by The King's Steward in the starter town. I have received so much assistance already from the Steward and the members of the guild, and I couldn't be more grateful for that! I have not been really engaged in online games before, as I have mostly preferred to stay within the confines of the dungeons of NetHack (vanilla) until now. I'm currently trying to roleplay an already old mage that has lost his touch with all things magical especially. Suddenly he got the urge to travel into the world again and become the mage and the person he always has been destined to be, but in the end didn't become. I look forward to participating in guild business, and to meet the acquaintance of everyone!
Welcome aboard Ravnkjell, and again, welcome to UO. In many ways you are quite lucky since you get to experience it all through fresh eyes
Heyo, My name is Jake and my IGN is Catman the Quick (my username being Catman933), I'm 16 years old which I imagine might be on the lower side of current UO players and I haven't played many MMORPG games before, but this one has had the most draw so far! I'm not sure how often I'll be on but I'll be sure to check in every now and again. Cheers.
Greetings, I would like to participate in your duties and be a part of the guild. I've lived many life times in different Worlds. I get older now. So wisdom tell us that we should share our knowledges to youngs. I concentrated on archery for a long time yet I've become one of the best but felt wisdom was missing so my new goal is to get to know magic deeply. I would be pleased to help or serve your captain of the guard. Yet I have desire to bury murderers alive.
Welcome aboard Lnomer! It was nice meeting with you and I think you will do great here I also know Sir Martius is quite happy to have a new recruit to join his growing ranks
Just a little heads up to the good folk of the Council - I will be mostly gone for the next few days as I drive back home which is halfway across the country. I will probably be around in the evenings a bit if I have wifi in my hotel. At any rate, I will be back sometime Monday Have a great weekend everyone!
Hello everyone! In my wandering quest for arcane and lost knowledge, I've come to find this land where I was lucky to meet Lord Gael Wordsworth. The King's steward has given me a place in the great council after I proved my worth, and helped me establish myself in this interesting and dangerous shard of the Gem. I look forward to fighting hand by hand with the captain Sir Martius and meeting the rest of the members.
Thank you for joining us Lady Kashla! I am also very sorry that I got you killed so many times while fighting Mage Lords I want to welcome all of our Ambassadors that have joined with The Great Council. Going forward, we are looking forward to hopefully working closely with you all And a big welcome to all the other fine folk who have joined The Great Council recently!
Greetings! I do believe Gael invited me to the guild. I'm a new player to this shard, but an old player to UO. I played roughly around 1996 to 2001 on Napa Valley and Siege Perilous servers.
Welcome Skippy (and a welcome to your friends who have also started here on the server! I think I ran into one today randomly ) - look forward to playing with you when you are around Also your friend said that your shoes were patented.
A *HUGE* huge thank you to @Basoosh - With his generous donation, we can start to plan and hold events and move forward with our community plans! Thank you so much!
Hail to thee travelers! I am known as Xyio and am an aspiring bard. I am thirty three years old and I have played UO off and on since the 90's. I enjoy casual roleplay and helping others. I am pleased to be in your company and I hope you will enjoy mine as well.
Updated the main topic with additional links and information, also updated the upper-echelon members of the Great Council roster.
Greetings all! It has taken me a few days to get down to saying hello, but here I am. I'm an old school player that has been on a loooong hiatus from UO. Very excited to be a part of the Great Council, as it reminds me of the good old days of content created by the player base, and not by new shiny toys meant to distract. Cara is a Ranger by trade so if you see me skulking around I'm not peeping in your windows, but looking for nefarious foes (well ok I might be peeping a little haha). If anyone needs anything from me please feel free to contact me either via forums, in-game, or on IRC. I'll do the best I can to be off assistance! Good hunting to all!
Welcome Cara! I thought a felt a good word gliding upon the winds in the Spiritwood. i hope to meet you in game. you sound like my kind of peoples. best regards, Jupiter
