As it stands, it would seem that certain boss spawns are getting disabled and I'm not sure if this is intentional or a bug. I haven't seen a Dark One spawn in Khaldun in a long time and several guildmates confirmed the same. The Beholder doesn't seem to be spawning in Covetous any more according to other reports. I have slain a fair amount of undead in several grave yards and haven't seen a Revenant in several months. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work based on the spawning monster type. For example, if a Dark One is a 1:100 spawn for Lich Lords, it should potentially spawn in the single LL spawn in Fire Dungeon, the Lich Lord room in Deceit as well as the Ancient Lich in Khaldun (as it once did for several months). I've also heard of some challenge getting the Efreet Sultan to spawn as well lately (I think ShadowJack mentioned it) Can we get these spawns attached to the mob type, instead of the location? I mean its really annoying to think that the only place we'll see a specific boss type is in a single spawn. For example, the Colossus only spawns in Titan Valley when there's actually more Titans that spawn in Despise than T2A as far as I can tell. So, in short, what's with the boss spawners seemingly changing at random?
I agree with you on this. I suppose keeping them in one location was more valuable when there was less population on the server so people could hunt without worrying about a boss but now with how full the server is there really should be no problems getting someone to help clear a boss out! It would make more sense for the bosses to spawn wherever their minions do.
I can't wait to find a Gamayun just wandering out in the woods or accidentally pull up a Purveyor of Darkness with a treasure chest.
That's kinda what I'm sayin too. I've suggested in private adding things like an Executioner for the Brigands, etc. Perhaps if the bosses spawn too much, drop the ratio down to suit. For the most part none so far have been like 'zomg epic loot to effort ratio' that people solely farm them so I think it would be pretty cool.
From Patch 39 In patch 39, the regions which had potential to spawn a boss variant of creatures native to the area was reverted back to their unique locations as they originally were when the system was introduced. Prior to this change, most bosses had multiple spawn locations where they could be found since shortly after we released the system we also expanded the number of spawn locations they could be created from. However, to some extent this was causing a significant amount of prime dungeon locations that are frequently farmed to essentially become "locked out" once a boss appeared since at the time nearly all of the bosses were simply too strong for most players to defeat using any template build other than an animal tamer. The overall toughness & difficulty for most bosses was addressed & reduced substantially in a later patch but due to the amount of complaints & requests to minimize bosses "locking out" spawns we decided to revert their spawn locations to the original design which was a single unique location for each boss based on its theme/type. Regarding the examples you've listed above, as of patch 39 it is no longer possible to spawn the Dark One in Khaldun by killing ancient liches nor is it possible to spawn Beholders via killing elder gazers on the 2nd level of Covetous. The Dark One is unique to Deceit level 4 (lich lords) & the Beholder to Shame in the gazer halls. An up-to-date listing for the bosses spawn locations can be found here; Mutombo's Guide to Big Game Hunting The way the system functions is unique to the location itself, not the actual creatures they originate from. There would be a large influx in boss spawning if it were to be changed to trigger off the creature type directly without location being a factor & part of the systems design is for them to intentionally be a rare, or rather less-than-common sighting. For the most part, the intent of the design was to be something that adds a little extra flavor to PvM while also attempting to draw interest & incentive to venture out into dungeons more often than one would normally. I don't believe we've ever discussed the concept of having the bosses spawn points tied to only the creatures they originate from, though personally im not sure this would be an easy change to get full staff support towards. This would effectively put bosses any & everywhere on the map with spawn potential & currently with the exception of mini-bosses & the colossus, the entire system is unique to dungeons. For Colossus, the regions spawn density wasn't really a factor in determining where to place them, their locations were mostly decided based on themes & regions you would consider "home" for them. Before patch 39 colossus did spawn in Despise level 3 from killing cyclops, but with that change was removed & limited to Cyclops Valley in T2A. The ogre mage is now unique to dungeon Despise.
