This is my way of doing it.

    Use footstools.
Use deco tool to raise the front ones (RED) once, and the back once (BLUE) 3 times.
You can widen the "funnel" as necessary. You can do it 3 or even 4 across and might have a better result in getting the golems to fall for it.

So you trap them there then remove the trash can and kill?

If you wish to melee them to death, then move the last table (or trash barrel) to the right one tile, and stand in the corner that creates.

Golem / Elemental traps and trap houses.

These are simple in essence and can be customised to suit your needs and play style, I fist started farming golems by dragging them half way across ice island to a house I had access to and with the aid of 2 wondering healers, beat them quickly for the ores. Since then I have been able to do this unaided and closer to the source.

When starting one of these houses you should take a few things into consideration,
    1, distance from mounting
You don't want to be running too far with your miner to get into the house, 1 or 2 screens at Max, otherwise it's going to get boring.

    2, local ores
When buying or placing a property you should check out what you would be able to mine locally and what elementals may spawn.

    3, Caves, non and spawning,
A local cave is another fantastic way to farm the ore mobs, even if there is no natural spawn a special shovel will have these guys out and ready to fill your pockets with ore.

    4, nice to haves
    Mining from in the property.
    Space outside to move around.
    Secluded location.
More then one property near by.

    Setup

My basic design in a marble workshop is suitable for all templates, melee, archer even tamer (don't try the shadow elemental with a tamer) 1 tile wide entrance into building passing over the two raised stools with the large forge down the outside and oak tables dividing the floor.

note that the entrance is only 1 wide, this can be 2, going down to one before reaching your player inside.

Foot stool placement is what makes this a one way only trap, you need a minimum of 2 foot stools, and using the decorating tool do the following with A being the entrance:

Foot stool A, needs to be locked down, then raised by 1
Foot stool B, locked down and raised 2 spaces up

as I get more time I will add in more details around layouts for different property types, and look at mining from platforms for mining inside and on the roof.

@Mr. Mahony I would recommend blocking the side and having either the back or front as an entrance and the other an exit using 2 sets of stools.

This depends on where the mountains are in comparison to the patio and the ability to mine from the property.

If you are interested in hiring me to set up for you, send me a message and we can discuss.

Thanks for all the examples and explanations, it really helps!

If you could, it would be great to see an example of mining from inside the house, with archers (or dexxers) killing the elementals inside the house. I think you need to put up ladders and ledges on the roof, so they can see you and walk inside the house into a footstool trap?

I was talking about a general idea, seemed like that would be less work for you. And then everyone should be able to adapt it a little based on the specific house on their own.

I was thinking of using a marble workshop or a small stone tower. The tower seems better, because I could mine for a bit, kill with archers, and then lock the door and loot without anyone else being able to get in (thief, PK,..).

I thought of putting a ledge up, mine from there, footstool trap in the entrance, and archer behind a table wall on ground floor. But it would be great to get some guide on how to set up the ledge, so they can aggro on me and walk inside.

I've seen the ledges around during my wanderings looking for a spot to drop a house. What exactly are the items needed? It appears to be a ladder and some sort of tile?

You need ledges to either use archers for killing mobs on the ground -like with Halloween graveyard houses (archers stands on the ledge and shoots arrows down), or for the monsters to see you from the ground. So if you spawn ore elementals outside the house, you can climb a ladder, they will see you and walk inside on their own. I have not actually tried this myself, but I have read it works like that. Otherwise the monsters would just roam around your house and not walk into the trap. You usually see this on large mining towers- People mine from ladders on the roof, and then they let the golems see them and wait for them to walk inside to their death.
