I know there's a lot of "wish we knew in advance" and "should be posted on website" stuff every time there's an event, but perhaps there's a reason why. First off, let's just skip past all the stuff like: But I go to BBQs on weekends, and I drink beer too! My RL is just SOOOO busy omg lemee tell u about it Hey bro I have a job, because I think that's so incredibly uncommon, thus I can barely play. These live events cater to the present and active players. We have players who sit in "refresh mode" and you'll see them emerge around event season. They storm in, some screaming hur dur hype! durrrrrrrrrr hype! choochoo! and participate, and then they vanish again. Perhaps, and just speculating here, staff is wanting to cater to the active population who are logging in regularly. They're not trying to hide these things from those of us who just check the forums once in a while, but the Town Criers were shouting the news as soon as the event went down in Moonglow. I miss most of these events, but that's my own fault because I wasn't on. Town invasions are an unexpected dynamic event and the fact that Telamon could run something at any time keeps the suspense alive.
Hear hear @One It surely couldn't do any harm to give some wider notice, even if for only every fourth or fifth event. It doesn't have to be every one.
It's not really about who is or isn't part of the community, nor is it a punishment for those who aren't active. At the end of the day, the community are the ones online and playing the game. We can all linger on UOR forums, discord, irc, etc, but the actual game we're playing (or not playing, in some instances here) is the only place where people are "owed" an announcement.
Imo, in-game communication is the way to go. Personally, I miss the days when the trade forum was the bulletin boards and player vendor meant standing in town and trying to sell your goods. - Personal server.
I've been running aound like a headless mongbat, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of the little green chaps so far!
Well... Invasions usually arent since it's a surprise attack. Chis does when he gets a few hours of time top set up. There have been announced invasions in past and Chris has rl emergency thus cant do. Players bitch and complain endlessly that they changed their schedule, stayed up late, etc. So it's not worth announcing small events in advance imo
Perhaps emergency is wrong term but ever since server started, small events like invasions have been canceled/delayed because of rl priorities like client needs xyz and is paying you. Early days there was a small group here and people understood. As uor grew staff would get negative backlash from players if canceled... So imo small events now are usually unannounced. Also rp gaming wise i like the surprise and it is abonus for active players. I missed lep event since i went to bed and havent been active. If i stayed up 3 more hours for a small event and it was canceled i would be upset. My morning is ruined since i gotta sleep in. Ok regarding lep week long event, this is different than a town invasion. I too am disappointed it hasnt started. I believe 2 years ago same thing happened where it was a combo Easter St. Paddys event. I prefer separate events but oh well. Sucks but still cool to hhave events. The positive i found in combo event is when u get bored of eggs and bunnies you have option to go kill leps =)
