The only way Ren will see Custom Housing is with a vastly restricted tile set to prevent atrocities, I'm fairly confident.
The tileset isn't the problem really. People will make atrocious designs with whatever tools you give them. If something like this ever happens, I hope it doesn't have that stupid foundation.
There is no need for basements at this time. Ren is in no way shape or form hurting for housing space. You can spend less than 10 minutes looking around and find multiple tower spots easily. There is plenty of pretty much any property you could want. Whether it be mining or something on water or secluded or whatever. The effects this could possibly have on the economy at this time simply aren't worth it.
The only change I would like to see is a Gold Sink to increase Secure and Lockdown storage. Not a Monthly "Maintence Fee" mind you, Just a MASSIVE outlay to do it once and have it stay with that house. (Not the Deed)

But it's not.. Impossible? Hehe jk. I think basements and anything other than a regular uo sanctioned home is a bit ridiculous.
Not really .. explain. how you would automate this on a flat 2d map? Think about connecting dungeons... Because u have to display the mountainside on the external map and the cavern insides on the internal you literally have across map teleportation to a virtual island that is the cave inside. This is how basements would need to be done and there is only so much map space and gm would have to script in the map teleportation spots to connecting basements.
The client is capable of 127 z-axis levels in both the positive and negative directions, though the majority of all terrain is at or near a 0 z-axis. You can build up and down.....no teleportation into mountains and other nonsense is necessary.
Ahh.. interesting. I ran a sphere server back in day and either it operates differently or I was just oblivious. I'm sure you can imagine how I created my own custom map.. (after creating my own static blank map) That being said look at uo's own map. It teleports the player all over when accessing portals or dungeons/ cave connections. We're they not aware of this technology?
