I just came across this thread and wanted to weigh in. I've tried a bunch of different combinations (including a hell hound pack).

    I've tried:
    Mare + 2 dragons:
Works great. Good tanking and damage, especially with fire breath.

Mare + dragon + white wyrm
White Wyrms seem to hit faster, but I haven't actually timed it. I haven't noticed a huge difference in terms of tanking ability, but they of course have less HP.

    4 mare pack
    This is my preferred.
Fire breath + magic. They do less damage with melee & fire, but you can make up for it with the fact that you have 4 pets. I definitely noticed that you can take down bigger mobs faster.
As an added bonus, you can quickly jump on and ride any of your pets.
The downside is that they will die faster than a dragon would when tanking against strong mobs.

Do nightmares have a threshold of a particular stat that allows them to do anything special? Similar to the higher dragon damage with > 820 hits?

Hi Rackir, for Mares at least 520HP so you can max Firebreath damage (26).

Remember is 1 point of damage per 20 HP points.

And about original post... finally I'm going with mare pack. :)

What is a 'bond worthy' dragon? What stats should I look to be above?

    Strength: no less than 822 -- (but this stats seem easier to find dragons with around 824 / 825}
Hit: also no less than 822 -- (ditto above)
    Intel: no less than 471
Dex: no less than 100 (ideally more, if possible).

Everyone may have their own opinion but I think strength and dexterity are by far the most important and intelligence is significantly less so.

    I try to get:
Perfect strength, perfect dexterity (or as close as possible).
Greater than 820 hit points. From what I understand that's where firebreath does 41 damage.
Intelligence I don't worry about. I will favor a perfect str/dex dragon with 450 int over one with imperfect str/dex but 475 int.

Intelligence as far as I can tell only affects mana. It takes so long for dragons to use all their mana I and skeptical that 20 extra mana changes DPS much. STR and DEX are the greatest influence over how much damage per second you will do. And as far as I can tell there's no difference between 821 and 825 HP as far as damage goes.

im not a super experienced tamer, but i prefer the mare pack, ive done hellhounds, frenzies etc, and being able to mount/dismount the whole pack when they block you is nice.
i have junk mares, train em up and they will destroy, flamestrikes, explosions, and 4x firebreath

you do need to be on top of the healing tho

for the record, thats based the hitpoints they have, not their max hitpoints. so your 520 hp mare is the same as a 500 hp mare if its missing one hp

Do Whyrms and dragons lose statpoints if you tame them whith paralyze field or is that a myth?
I found a white whyrm with perfect stats and now after taming it has 10 statpoints lower in each stat??

Pets only lose skills when para tamed. If you can maneuver yourself to max range of animal lore, it’s usually one tile farther than aggro range. Allows you to get a true stat value reading prior to the pet aggroing and blessing.
