A vendor will be set up with different gambling chips, for different denominations. Currently, we sell 5k chips, and for the high rollers, 25k value chips. Other chips of 1k and 500g will be given out as change if need be. You'll purchase the chips from the vendor, so you don't have to keep physical gold on you. After the event, any chips you have remaining will be exchanged for face value checks/gold. (Early cashouts will come with a 10% deduction since it will interrupt the flow of the games). Betting: In order to place a bet, you will need to have a box (we'll have a small supply) with a blank book inside. You'll write down your bet amount and what you are betting on (more on that in just a second) and transfer the box to the "dealer". You'll put your chips inside that box with your book that has your characters name and bet amount and what you're betting on. If you win, your original bet will be returned plus your winnings, paid out in chips in highest value (ex: if you win 30k, you get a 25k chip + a 5k chip) The games: Currently, our main game is "Rat Roulette", with more games in testing still. For Rat Roulette, the dealer will place a rat in the center of the square. Bets will be taken on which color you think the rat will land on. Currently, the max bet is 25k but that could change at some point in the future. The blank square in the middle can not be bet on, if the rat happens to land on it, the house wins. Bets on this game are structured like horse racing- the payout ratios will fluctuate depending on how many bets are placed and the amounts. During "dry runs" of the game, we've seen potential ratios of 9.0, meaning someone could potentially win 45k on a 5k bet. Minimum payout ratios for this game are currently set at 3.0, which could be raised in the future. Payout ratios won't be announced just for time constraints, but the ratio for the winning square will be announced. Once bets are placed, the dealer will shut the door and release the rat via a macro. The macro will pause for 10 seconds, allowing the rat to move freely from square to square. A 5 second countdown will start (you'll see this) and the dealer will cast explosion, target the rat, and shut the door again. Wherever the rat dies, that is the winning square. Casino rules: No mounts - stable them or park them outside. You will be ejected if not. Do not come as a thief: all known thieves will be ejected/banned simply because we don't want any trouble since it's going to be a very involved event. Snooping packs and/or stealing is strictly prohibited. Do not come with anything you wouldn't want stolen so you don't become a target. No casting spells inside or using skills that will affect monster/animals (such as, but not limited to, Earthquake). No fighting, interrupting the flow of the event, being generally disruptive, and/or being a jackass. Systems are in place to prevent anyone from trying to defraud the casino: attempting to do so will forfeit your bet(s) and get you banned from the premises. A casino employee will be using detecting hidden to prevent people from stealthing around. Attempting to interfere with the games in any way, shape, or form will get you a ban. Do not come as a red (murderer); come as a blue instead. Telamon can keep ppl from NCDing to that same name, but can't keep ppl from creating a new char with that name and tailoring takes 24 hours or less to macro unfortunately Very good idea tho. I love it. Love gambling. Just wanted to make sure their was proper procedures in place to prevent the cheating/scamming because what i've learned with UO, is ppl enjoy finding exploits and ways to cheat the system more than they enjoy playing the game.
Even if someone did that, I will have a log of all bets made and who made them. So if someone came to me with 7 x 25k chips to cash out and only won 10k, I'll know even if they did dupe the name... so it will be a forfeit of their bets, a ban, and a waste of their 24 hour macroing If someone tried to cheat the system I could always make people enter in as ghosts like they do in resist events, if things get out of hand
I would recommend bod cloth, if you have that available. Dyed "chips" can be redyed and if you're not snooping for tubs chip-changing could be an issue. Otherwise, great idea and sounds like a ton of fun. I'll be there.
Yeah that could be an idea on the dyed cloth. Thanks to all who came out to the event (Damn it I forgot screenshots!). Blaise is now in our hall of fame for being the first and one and only winner, winning 30k!
To be honest, the odds (8:1?) seemed a bit imbalanced with the 3:1 payout. It was fun none the less but I think there's some room for improvement there.

Yeah actually i use a spreadsheet to calculate the odds. It actually goes up pretty high for payouts depending on who bids what. But sometimes the payouts weren't great so i did the 3 to 1 payout minimum instead if it was underwater. In all reality I plan on doing a higher payout like 8 to 1 which makes it more appealing, I just didn't want to get over my head and have to owe someone too much money than i could pay . We're pretty much putting our money into the casino to cover any bids so when we have more of a buffer, it will increase.
Dont worry, we will probably do another event this week. It's also something we can do on a whim too, if we have time. So you might hear an announcement in irc some days when I've got the time to do it and put in a few rat roulette games, or gorilla fights
