What should a constant gate costs at least per day/week/month? If a player sets up a constant gate this means he must cast every 40 seconds a gate spell If he want to set up a gate all day this means 2160 gate spells each day. *30 = 64800 gate spells each month One gate spell costs 5gp+3gp+3gp = 11gp So its a easy calculation for a perma gate made by staff: 2160 gates/day * 11gp/gates = 23760 gp/day 64800 gates/month * 11gp/gates = 712800 gp/month Lets do a little bit discount. 1 day : 22.500gp 30 days : 650.000gp This calcluation is without fizzles and has a discount so its a good amount cheaper as casting yourself. I think this price is ok.
It will be made of sticks and not actually do anything but damage you when you walk into it though....
who talks about "You" as a single person? I think special staff intervention like "gates" (also if it would be automated in any way by "deeds") should cost more as a single person wants to pay. If you dont want a perma gate you could set up a char in britain who gates all 5 minutes once. This reduces the costs by 80-90% and you land at 100-150k/month. If you like a not dispelable gate (or "faction vendors accessable by all" in your city and such stuff whatever) - it should cost gold. If its cool maybe some people would donate. I would like to see some systems established which costs monthly/weekly/daily fee for some cool player city stuff.
it seems to me that you are harboring some misconceptions regarding the proprietorship of the player-run cities who would stand to benefit from such a system (whether or not such a benefit would be appropriate). i can easily imagine A^T declaring that their "player-run city" was a fitting place for a moongate or teleporter, despite the only reason to go there being to visit personal residences or to attend a bi-annual, staff-approved exploit session. i promise that Shadowlords will have a moongate to their guild house in this case. this is what will inevitably happen if moongates are included in the forthcoming house add-on system. we are establishments such as Stormhold, PAWS and Grimoire who have just cause to want for the facilities being discussed here, however the owners and operators of these venues can not afford 650k/month. my personal thought on the matter is that not everything should be a gold sink. some things should be paid for with time and commitment and on the basis of server-as-a-whole benefit, at the staff's discretion.
^^^^ I agree. I spend far too much on horses for caravans and personally fund any rewards I give. It could be argued that the time and effort put in by these folks serves as a gold sink and I agree to this and would like to see demonstrated purpose for such a system. I strongly approve a one way portal to any player run town on fixed locations to prevent exploitation from "runner" combat (people who like to start fights and then run). Players should get a warning telling them it's a one way trip and they had best plan for a way home.
