I have never had success using the webIRC that is linked to on the shard website. But once I downloaded a client like mIRC or HexChat, i was finally able to connect. This is the best answer I can give as IRC is still very new to me and I'm still learning myself. Goodluck! And hope this was helpful...
This is a known issue. The cause is unknown to me though. I've heard that closing and reloading bypasses the error sometimes. There are other IRC programs that do not succumb to this error.
Try this: https://client00.chat.mibbit.com/ Its web based still, but different from the one form the main page. Its what I used everyday. I can use it on my work comp, and not have to download a program as well. Connect box = chat4all [webirc] nick: what ever you want channels: #renaissance,#uortrade,#uorpvp
As was said for it to work for me I always have to open it, close it, then open again. The 2nd try always works. You don't even have to wait for the error...just count to 3 and close it. Disclaimer: That is my experience.
