    I spoke too soon.
    Let me rephrase.
I think this change has some security issues not considered.
It also has the aggravation factor of allowing unintended things to drop into locked containers.
I did speak too frankly and apologize if I offended anyone.
I would like this issue to be reconsidered thogh.
Thank you kindly for hearing me out.
I'd like to hear what others think about this as well.

I think you've misunderstood the patch, reagents can only be consumed while on your person. You were not & are still not able to consume reagents to cast spells with from any container or location which is not physically on your person itself. Having a locked down container behind you in your house, behind a barrier wall still requires you to have those reagents on person to cast, you cannot simply stand close to the chest & cast using reagents from within the locked down container.

The ability to use reagents for spells which are in a container on your person, which is locked by either means of a tinker-lock or the magic-lock spell, is something that has always been mechanically possible. This patch did not change or add this feature to the server, it simply expanded slightly on the interaction abilities with locked containers.

This is the first patch that has some things that I really don't like. What's the reasoning behind the accessiblility change to locked down rune books? Also, do the changes to locked containers have a purpose other than to make life harder for thieves?

Sorry Ezekiel, perhaps I did misunderstand.

Where Chris said "...items such as reagents can be consumed while in a locked container," what exactly is meant here? What am I missing here?

And again, I apologize for sounding tart earlier.

Lance, it means if you had your regs in a locked container in your pack, you previously couldn't use them. Now you can.

Re: Patch 38: June 6th 2013 Camps, Advertising, Tracking Upd

The change to runebooks was to resolve a bug allowing them to be access from outside a private house through the walls. Additional security was added to make sure that someone cannot access a runebook, that is locked down, in a private house unless they are a friend of that house. Runebooks in public houses can be accessed by anyone. This is only a small adjustment from the existing mechanics. If players want to make an argument for Runebooks in private houses to have no security that can be discussed.

So for now, Private House = Private runebooks, Public House = Public runebooks.

Correct this change only affected the mechanics of locked containers you are holding. Before this patch when using the magic lock spell, or a key to lock a container players were unable to interact with the container properly.

The only change that was made was allowing players to drop/drag items into a locked container, once it was already locked. At this point it becomes inaccessible, except in the case of reagents that are magically consumed. Items cannot be accessed unless the container is unlocked.

This was a common era accurate mechanic in which players would carry a lockable crate, that they opened and placed valuables in, and then magic locked. So the items in the container are visible but inaccessible to thieves. To remove any items they would have to magic unlock the container.

Note: Before the patch reagents could still be consumed from a locked container you were carrying.

    Awesome, that is cool.

    Okay, that is my mistake.
As you probably figured out by now, I thought this was for containers locked-down, as well as locked, in one's house.

I thought this because two days ago, I rearranged some chests as well as split up the keys between two keyrings.
I was intending to place the first keyring, full of keys, on the top of a stack of four chests.
I missed and got my mouse pointer too close to the bottom, locked, chest and the ring full of keys dropped inside.
I tried Releasing the chest and using the Unlock spell, but to no avail.
I paged a counselor who was kind enough to come and retrieve my keyring.

Thus, you can now understand how, along with my little mishap, I ended up misunderstanding the meaning of this one part of the notes for Patch 38.
I am sorry and do apologize.

Oops, one more small hiccup, possibly.

I see that Dolphins are listed under the new category of "Sea Monsters."

I am in hopes that perhaps this is because you you plan to add a new,
and aggressive, species of Dolphin eventually, in which case the Dolphin
most definitely belongs in this category. :p

Has anyone come across Mage Towers / Warlord Towers? I watch the boards here and there and have never seen one posted.

What does this mean? Specifically "gradually higher" and "realistic"?

Realistic based on your skills, under the classical mechanics of Ultima Online, no matter how high your skills were you would at best hit 50% of the time against a monster with 100 wrestling. This patch drastically improved the chances to hit a monster for all warriors as you train your skill.

Interesting. A nice way to help warriors get closer to mages, bards, and tamers, in PvM abilities.

Incidentally, I thought I was noticing this when fighting skeletons and zombies as I trained Fencing - I seemed to hit well over 50% of swings, which of course wouldn't be possible under normal UO rules unless they had negatives for weapon skill.

This has an added benefit that the naturalist in me quite likes.

It speeds up skill gain for those playing the old fashion way, fighting monsters instead of sparring.

To clarify, this is only applied in a player to monster interaction. Player to player interaction still follows the known Ultima Mechanics of the era.
