Snooping is supposed to be like it is, to change it is absurd, that's where you just go off of the deep end.

Instead of wanting a giant nerf that has never existed in UO anywhere, how about you put your trapped pouches in a lock box, or put them about 10 bags deep or any of the other dozens of ways you can prevent thieves.


Nothing I say is crap. Mechanics are busted, the fails are too high, the always go grey thing is wrong, weights stolen are too low, esp on stacks, it shouldn't take 10 or more skill uses to get 100 regs, I shouldn't fail on a war fork 5-6 times in a row, there are other bugs such as stealing with a non thief, or stealing from a pk or grey that cause you to go perma that are wrong.

Hop off your soapbox, you're clearly out in left field with some of your ideas while I'm simply pointing out how the mechanics are busted.


Here are some of the things that have already been put in because of thieves

can't steal runebooks unless it's random or they are in a 2ndary pack
statues and rares such as potted plants are over 11 stones compared to the 1 stone they were on prodo
always go grey (granted this was a wonderful thing compared to xray vision of npcs)
can't steal bod books
the trade window was patched so you cant' be stolen from after it was canceled or completed (I agree with this one, I want to steal, not scam)
and there's a few more


not even suggesting these things be put back to era, but the mechanics yes. If you want me or any thief to take you seriously then stop suggesting nerfing snooping, that makes you look like an uber noob/trammy when the point is to get it back to era standards

In the same backhanded way that snooping is broken, snoop fail steal was easier to fight a thief. and didn't require a 100 point skill sink.

If I understand your explanation above correctly, you've just listed the reason that forensics is broken.

Perhaps i worded that poorly. perhaps i will again.
Someone not in the thieves guild, walks up and 'tries to' steals from a thief, you could tell if they were blue/grey by the lines of dialogue it gave.
"you must be in the guild to steal this item"

From what i understand that doesn't work here. So unless you're full well on knowing which name is perma grey (and) being able to tell if its actually the thief and not the same named alt. you have to use forensics.

It doesn't need to do more than it does, it actually has a use in doing what it should have done. (before hand it just didn't, but the player base was much larger)
It isn't that it is broken, it is that stealing has been changed in a way that actually allows it to do what it "should"
It doesn't require a buff. the nerf kind of buffed it.
