Sure you will; that's not a Murder, that's Standard, I'd think. There are certainly ways for two people in consensual combat to ensure that one gets e-peen credit for killing the other one. And in any case, as I said, 24 hours was a random example. What I think is silly is finding some miner's route, and spending a couple of hours just recalling back to kill them. Or house-killing someone with a bad Magery macro over and over. Or a tamer who's macroing bulls. All should certainly be do-able in the game, but to keep giving some type of "point" for that is sort of making the whole point of counting, IMO, a lot less informative.
While it pains me to say it, some players are only here to take credit for killing miners and AFKs. If we're going into such detail with the credit maybe we should have a category for senseless grief-kills. . .
it looks like if the killer has > 5 counts it's a murder. if we need to hash out what circumstances 'count' as a murder then this discussion will never end.
I assumed if someone attacks a murderer, and they die at the hands of the murderer, it's not a "murder". But yeah, would be good to know if this is the case.
That's accurate for in game mechanics, but not for the database. Again I don't think Telamon ever intended the way it currently works to be how it would always work. And he's always said that. That said, I think I actually prefer the way it works for murders. These leaderboard points are seen as an achievement or award. It's always harder for a murderer to kill someone actively attacking them so that seems more worth rewarding. We've been given the opportunity to shape how the leaderboard will work next year so now's the time to agree to give points for the most pointworthy kills. Another way to look at it would be 'killed by murderer' or 'kill made while your status is murderer.' At this point all the system does is categorize the kills in some way like: Is it CTF? Is it guild combat? Is it faction combat? Do you have 5 short terms (then its a murder) otherwise it's standard combat I think the important things here are to agree that kills on same IP are thrown out. Then I think we should agree that kills on the same target need some cooldown. What that cooldown is is kind of tough for me to say. Lib is right that oftentimes you can have a legitimate fight with the same person twice in 15-30 minutes. Yet someone could also significantly add to their leaderboard by killing the same target every 15-30 minutes too. I'm really on the fence on this, personally.
This is why I was hoping the system could flag this somehow, based on who attacked who. If that's not possible, then indeed it's going to be tough to find the right balance between those two things. 24 hours was the number I threw out there because I thought the latter was the bigger potential problem, but if the former is more important, they I could certainly seeing it be 15 minutes, or even 10.
Yeah I dunno, maybe it could cap at X per day on a target or IP. Like you can't get more than 5 kills on one IP a day in any category.
