There isn't a debate at all. The OP's issue arises from a team that does well in the IDOC scene, we all know this. I've never heard of anyone being threatened by staff for changing their sign name, and I've seen several homes that for years have had the name 'in danger of collapsing'. In addition, a player saying "In Danger of Collapsing" (or anything else for that matter) isn't even picked up by a sysmessage, so that wouldn't even confuse a bot. If they were actually "threatened by staff" - it was probably more of a case of just spamming unnecessarily.
That defense is lame though. Why does it have to be BECAUSE one team is good at what they do though? Why can't it be because it would require more attended game play with the change, which would invariably be more fun for all parties? Even ElHorno admitted that running the bot is awful as part of the team that is good at what they do. It's already been established that the people currently running the show would CERTAINLY still be the best IDOCers around... soo.... your argument is kinda moot. Edit: After some thought, I guess making the timer random wouldn't alleviate the need for a bot unless it was TOTALLY random and could fall after 1 minute being IDOC or 16 hours (or however many) ... but that doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
No to mention it would be easily remedied on the client side by ignoring said player. I highly doubt anyone in the group is unaware of this client side function.
I believe erlkonig was the one in trouble for saying in danger of collapsing, but its been more than a year
Speech does not register as system message. IF (and that is a big if) he was reprimanded, it was for spamming, would be my best bet.
There are plenty of reasons to remove IDOC'ing from the game that have nothing to do with how good or bad people are at it: 1) it gives players incentive to want others to quit 2) it creates a snowballing amount of wealth on the shard that discourages some newer players from joining a shard at this stage of its life 3) in 2017, it promotes AFK "playing", which runs counter to the game experience most of us enjoyed 20 years ago and are hear to enjoy again Unfortunately these explanations get lost in threads that turn into chest-puffing contests and the politically-linked belief that if hard work is correlated with success at some pursuit, that pursuit is inherently something we must preserve.
Dalavar though I don't really have a dog in the fight or care much, if it were to change I'd find it interesting to see every single item collected into some central vault automatically via some auction system where the higher-tier things could be bid on...or even better, perhaps the house loot is just suddenly placed on monsters all throughout Britannia (talk about inspiring people to get out and start killing things), into mib rewards, into dungeon chests, into amib stashes and into level 4+ treasure map digs. Then the only real fight when the house falls is for placement, everything else is spread far & wide throughout the lands.
2 months ago, my friend @Gromm quit without any warning, irc or email messages. It was a real friend for me! Btw WHERE ARE YOU?????? So, i try to reach him by alot of way but nothing work. We was around 12-15 at horseshoe island waiting for gromm's house decay. I was talking to someone there when the house drop. IT WAS REALLY CRAZY!!! We look like a tons of ants to try to get something to eat! After 5-6 seconds ,booomm! Everything was cleanup! We bank our treasure and come back to horseshoe and we share info on whats we loot. We also let new player place houses there!(new player=Great stuffs) No one was killed, everyone have fun (maybe not @BlackEye... he experiment terrible lags when the house drop) @Animal Control @The Crooked Warden @PaperSquirrels @BlackEye and alot of good folks was there and its was good times! By opening this voting thread i was trying to find a way to turn IDOC fun and addictive. Its seems idoc crew rules and nothing will change... So we need to make a BIGGER IDOC TEAM!!!
lol snowballing wealth. Anyone who doesn't realize that vets are almost invariably going to be more capable of gaining more wealth than newer players simply has no fucking clue how this game works, has worked and should continue to work.
^ made me laugh Edit: you do all this crazy automated work, let me know when IDOC is happening, then if time is favourable I'll come and Ebolt everyone in sight ok @shad??? Even Larloch, I'll Ebolt his ass too. He's a big boy. I know he can take it...
It's kind of nice to get a feel for what everyone's opinion is like. It's quite interesting how so many people want IDOC to be random. I think it would expand opportunity since no one will know when it will fall. Random IDOCs would increase that heart-pounding gameplay.
It was me =-)... I used a comm crystal on a 2.5 second delay spamming [this house is idoc]. First I was told my spam prevented a page from being answered in the locale. Then I was told that I wasnt doing anything because the macro the recall bot was using was taking a picture after every item id instead of being triggered by sysmsg=idoc (my spam). Finally I was told the server has issues at the moment everyone is being told to reduce their macro usage.
So "threatened" was a shit choice of words used in attempt to denigrate staff, by the person who shared this gem. You had a conversation about your spam and how it impacted their volunteered time supporting the players of this shard. Got it. Thanks for clearing up that misinformation for the rest of us. Right, because there's no heart pounding in a good fight over loot you've spent time working out the system for and engaging competition over. /end sarcasm Try building up and fighting for it and bringing something tangible to lose other than your hit points and maybe you'll get that pulse up.
I'm just gonna throw this out there.... I've been playing UO off and on (mostly on) since 1998. I have never once been a participant in the IDOC scene on any shard ever. And I've done pretty well for myself wherever I've played. Carry on. PS> If any of you IDOC champs have shiny trinkets you have no room for, let me know. I can always find a use.
