Welcome to Scarlet's Total N33b guide to Day 1 NPC Escorting (and beyond) Hello, I am Scarlet. I am Sapharious's Escort mage. When I came to UOR I made my day one gold and first house using this easy escorting method. I figured I would share it since there are so few Escorting guides. Most starting guides for new players want the player to begin fighting, barding, or taming. These are all valid starting points, but are too slow in the gold producing line for my liking. Using the method I will show you below a new player (or returning) can easily place a small house or tower on Day 1 with hardly no risk at all. Too good to be true, you say! Well lets get started! Step One: Make your escorting character! Step Two: Start in Ocllo! If you have an account that is too old to start in Ocllo... why are you following this?!?? Ok, just take gate to Ocllo. You will know you are in Ocllo when everyone is silent and there is booze all over the ground... All you have now is a bag of reagents for casting spells, a spellbook with hardly no spells, a dagger, and scissors if you were smart and put 1 in healing... Oh, yeah.. you have big dreams and 1000 gold pieces! You may also have some other junk from your other skill choice. Step Three: Visit the Ocllo Provisioners and buy a 6 gold bag (or 2), then visit the Mage shop and buy about 5-10 unmarked runes. This will cost you about 80-160 gold depending on how many bags and runes you buy. Be frugal for now... you can always buy more runes later. Provisioner Shop (look for 6GP bags) Mage Shop Step Four: Now go to the player run Vendor shops between the Ocllo bank and the moongate. Buy a pack of 10 Recall scrolls and drop 1 on your Spellbook adding the spell to your Spellbook. Buy a pack of Mark scrolls. Between these two purchases and your prior you should be running very low on gold. Note: You can take the moongate to Yew and find better deals on Scrolls or at least find them if Ocllo vendors are out. Be wary though and leave all your valuables in bank. You can buy from player Vendors with no money in backpack it automatically withdraws from your bank! I know in my graphic I say buy Gate Scrolls too... you can if you have gold but it is not required at this point yet. Step Five: Walk near the moongate and Mark a rune there. You do this by double clicking a Mark scroll and then targetting an unmarked recall rune when you get target cursor. Once you do this, double click the rune you just marked and type "Ocllo" or "Ocllo Bank" or "Ocllo something". Now place the rune in one of the bags (or the bag) that you bought. You want to organize these City runes as you make them for ease of use later. I like alphebetically from left to right. Britain, Cove, Jehlom, Magincia, Minoc, Moonglow, Nujelm, Ocllo, Serpent Hold, Skara Brae, Trinsic, Vesper, and Yew. Later when you do a Dungeons bag you can do same with Covetous, Deceit, Despise, Destard, Hythloth, Shame, and Wrong. Note: If you can afford Runebooks you can use them instead of bags. But this guide is for the most basic start. Step Six: Now go to the Ocllo bank player Vendor house with runebooks above front steps. Find the City book and drop a single Recall scroll on it to add 1 charge. You can now click the blue button beside any location in the book and recall to it. I advise using the Recall scrolls you bought earlier to recall to the cities to mark your runes and save your starting reagents for later. You will fail much less with Recall scrolls and you do not lose them on fails. Step Seven: Recall to as many cities as you can afford and mark runes in them to add to your bag. Do as many Cities as you have unmarked runes, Recall/Mark scrolls for. As soon as you have 2 cities you can technically start escorting. You can also escort using the moongate using your Ocllo rune. Find an escort in any city and then gate them back to Ocllo and then use moongate to take them to their destination City! As you earn money escorting buy more unmarked runes, Recall/Mark/Gate scrolls as you need to finish out your Cities bag (and Dungeon bag using same method but using Dungeon book on Vendor house to mark dungeon entrances). Eventually you will get a full bag/book of both Cities and Dungeons and you will be able to earn gold off any escortable NPC in the game! Step Eight: Open up that Escort Service! [disclaimer: In UOR] 1. Find NPCs that want escorting. They are in all the main towns: Britain, Cove, Jehlom, Magincia, Minoc, Moonglow, Nujelm, Ocllo, Serpent Hold, Skara Brae, Trinsic, Vesper, and Yew. They can be found all over. Usually near banks, but not always. You will need to run all over town looking for them. Get a horse, it helps alot. You will soon learn where you find them in most towns. I thought about making maps but TBH in some cities the zone would cover the whole city (like Britain). You will quickly learn where to find them. You can use the bulletin board on Bank exteriors to find them as well. These will give a direction to look in anyways. You will soon learn it is easier to just ZERG all over on your horse. (I chose taming as my second skill so I could easily tame me a wild horse in Ocllo pen!). NPC escortables come in several unimportant types: Mechants, Mages, Messengers, and Grooms... no Brides.. only Grooms travel to weddings in this age! They all tip/pay between 250 and 450 gold for your service.. course you don't know the amount till you get them there. 2. Beginning the transaction and finishing the deed... (make macros for these to make your life much easier) Say: "I will take thee" to begin the escort process. Say: "destination" to learn their destination city if you forget. Say: "release" If you just don't/can't take them (like to Wrong during Valentines event or if you accidently get a Dungeon escort and aren't ready yet). Now POP that Gate and get them on their way! Double click the Gate scroll (or Gate scroll stack) and then target your destination rune. Once the gate appears you simply double click it. You can double click it again once you arrive and get paid to return if there are more NPCs in area that need your service! Get PAID! Tips and Tricks: I have covered some tips and tricks above but I will list/relist the important ones here: - You will have to leave YOUNG status to follow this guide and leave Ocllo. IMHO it is well worth it on your devoted escort character. You can always rejoin Young program by using [profile menu if account is elligable. - Get a mount as soon as possible. This will help you find escortables much quicker. - Do moongate escorting to start with until you get your escorting supplies. - Make macros of the commands! - There is only a ONE minute time out between escorts on UOR. This timer starts when an NPC accepts your offer to escort and ends 1 minute later regardless of whether you still have the NPC. During this time the NPC will tell you that you need to rest... they are so considerate and thoughtfull and in NO hurry at all. - You can have 6 escorts following you around at a time if you wait the 1 minute between each. It is usually not cost effective to stack unless you are moongate escorting, but if you see two going to same city you can save a Gate scroll by grabbing both and then gating. - Keep using bought Gate Scroll packs until you can afford to macro up your magery to around 75. Once at 75 begin using reagents to cast Gate spell because even with fails it is still cheaper than scrolls. - Buy Runebooks as soon as you can afford them and put your City runes in one and Dungeons in other. You can find Runebooks cheaper at vendors outside Ocllo.. usually 250-400 as oppsed to 650-800 in Ocllo (at this time), same can sometimes be said for Gate scroll packs..keep eye out for good deals! - Be carefull escorting to Dungeons. In two months I have only ever run into 2 PKs when escorting.. both were so suprised when I ran by that I was gone as they hit attack macros. Just be mindfull of the danger and only keep 30 of each reagent on you or 1/3 your Gate scroll stacks if escorting outside cities. Don't hesitate to Recall out instead of running back out to take gate if it "feels" hinkey. - Always be looking at the ground if you need some extra gold... Well, this brings us to the end. I hope someone can find some use out of this guide. I have made quite a lot of gold using its tricks and bought my first house on day 1 and 1/2 casually following its premise. Best of Luck! Scarlet
