I know this isn't personal. You're making one argument and I'm making another. Wealth on UOR is not finite. It spontaneously appears when you engage in a variety of activities. You know this. You've failed to demonstrate how the housing market is in shambles. A few people are being salty because they can't own vanity projects, and one guy who said he couldn't find a spot was hooked up with a brick within 10 minutes at deed price. And, like I said earlier, there are dozens of mining and vendor houses available right now. Really good ones. edit again: I don't think you can claim you're advocating for new players when this does in fact seem to be about large homes, despite what you keep saying. A new player should absolutely have to put some time in to own one of these, just like anyone. There is no shortage of great housing (and free!) for new players.
Hey look! A whole village with keep for less than 1/3rd of what you're claiming here! http://uorforum.com/threads/auction-secluded-large-keep-on-grass-with-surrounding-village.21228/
I was waiting to make sure that Shadowjack was okay with this thread going off the rails before commenting on anything other than the post where my auction was alluded to. I shall, in any event, be brief. If condemned status isn't a thing here already, it should be.
For the purposes of this conversation, @RIN, it means that people would need to log in at least every three months, even if they had a friend refreshing for them. The second their account was moved to the inactive column, their houses would acquire condemned status and could not be refreshed by friends.
Aye. It helps to avoid ridiculousness. Like one guy refreshing 40 houses for a group of friends who "might come back". It's a fairly common sense measure that almost everyone on both sides of this debate can get behind.
I am 100% for that idea. It would also push vet players who are quitting or taking a break to either sell their houses or deed them and place in bank for the future. This might not affect a ton of houses, but I bet it would help some. Remember, in regards to empty prime locations NOT being used. If they were sold to players who do use them then those areas would be more heavily populated. This goes into another segment of topic which a lot of folks talk about. The server population counts says one thing, but new players sometimes feel there is no one around. Well, I and many other people house sit or do most of my non-adventure stuff at my house. If my house was in a more congested area then my movement would be seen and therefore would allude to more people being around. Instead of in the far corners of the map in their own houses.
ohh, but as far as the far corners go. I definitely would also like my secluded mountain house as well with no neighbors for retirement purposes.
Yeah, the hard part is how much policing is involved to make sure people are 'using' their homes, how they spend their time there, if they plan on coming back (if currently inactive) etc. Currently there is no way to do this, and I don't really think there should be. Condemned status would be great, for starters, but telling people they are no longer entitled to their houses based on our perceptions of how they are being used, well.... super hard to implement, and objectionable.
Interesting ideas. In regard to number 2, people already kind of do this to macro and get plat, so I don't know if it would help anything. Unless it could be elaborated on...?
(1) Aye, again. (2) Seconded (3) I have misgivings over this, based on my love of the glorious sandbox in which we play. Fortunately, my opinions on these matter are worth their weight in gold...
I know that when I took two years off, I didn't keep my clients up (though, now I really wish I had). I don't know what percentage of players are like me, and what are like Sea C, but the numbers on that would dictate the outcome/effect.
On the last part, definitely agree there is no way to really oversee this and like you there should not be (smaller government for sure ). I was suggesting that for folks who would like more active players around them, or the perception of it, to maybe sell 1-2 of their cluster homes to others and that would make your area more populated (if they want it that way). I definitely don't want the server policing us at all in that respect. However, condemned status is a GREAT idea and it really does sound like everyone is on board with it. I definitely think 15 houses per account is too many, however I think 3 houses per 3 accounts is too few. I don't know if a spread between all accounts of 10 houses would really do anything either since most folks seem to have 1.4 houses (from post above per telamon). Also, it is kind of late in the game to roll back a server birth feature. Decrease bonding slots (TOTALLY KIDDING on derail !).
