Pretty sure if anyone made a thread selling silver at 3g-5g per or whatever was said above, that it would sell instantly and all day long. The point of this discussion has been why would someone sell it for so little when it is less profitable than just straight farming gold. If you can farm X amount of gold in Y hours, then selling Z for less than X that took the same amount of Y, then there is no point in selling it.
Thought I had seen silver being sold at one of the occlo vendors next to the bank. Forgot what the selling price is though. 6 or 7, something like that. Been a while since I've gone that way so maybe its changed.
I farm silver often , normaly 1500 per hour and at 5gp each that would be 7500gp an hour.... who will sell for that low?
There’s another way to look at it... You don’t go farm silver unless you’re in a faction. Outside of this it has no value. If you’re on your dexxer or tamer and you’re farming deamons or ogre lords then you’re getting gold and silver. If you use the silver it has value, if you don’t then it doesn’t. If you DONT use it and it just sits there then it is a value add, like a weapon, for example. Personally I’d sell silver between 10-15gp, that way I know that for every ogre lord I kill I’m getting an extra 300-450gp per kill. Making a deamon or OL significantly more enticing to farm as your loot package will be in effect 600-1000 gold plus magic stuff after factoring in the price of silver. If you made it 500gp per... well that’s insanity.
I posted a buying thread, so lets feel free to discuss the merits here if you like.... Silver is a raw material, just like iron, cotton, wood and regs, it has intrinsic value in and of itself. If it is used to make something far more profitable, then who should reap the rewards of that profit? The person who gathered the resource or the person who converted it?
Why not both? In this situation it can be done. So instead of making another post ahead of time we, as a community, should be able to come up with a value. This isn't something that has been done or tried in a long time. Supply and demand.
A community coming up with a price isn't supply and demand. @LanDarr has initiated supply and demand by putting a WTB post on the trade forum. If he finds a seller he just single handedly created the demand and someone might be willing to supply it. What you're talking about is price fixing.
No, price fixing would be like two or three people buying out all of one specific commodity and then selling it for an increased rate because nobody else has any. Yes.
"Price fixing is an agreement between participants on the same side in a market to buy or sell a product, service, or commodity only at a fixed price, or maintain the market conditions such that the price is maintained at a given level by controlling supply and demand." We're both right/wrong.
*on the same side* if people are agreeing as both buyers/sellers, then the above statement does not describe what is happening here.
I'm just interested on how players value this commodity, i threw my 2c in... I hope @LanDarr get what hes after as I've only known him to be a stand up guy.
Hold on a sec... I'm not saying he isn't. If it's coming across that way I do apologize, honestly. I just think the value of 5g per is low. Honestly I kinda like the 10-20g per is a little closer to the correct value, if not dead on. This isn't hard to get this currency but it doesn't drop like gold does. It has a much more limited use to only a handful of players. Those handful of players that could/would use it would benefit much more so that others who do not. I mean we're not talking about statues, carpet pieces, or other trammie stuff that you get from platinum.
Bought a minax warhorse on one of my tamers this morning who has full 1157 stuff and it looks freaking sweet. I also would just like to say that I hope I didn’t come off as hostile anywhere in this thread as well. I just really think silver is worth more than 5g per due to the time investment. Hell, AMIBs are still selling for 60-100k per despite the fact that you only get 10k gold + 2 plat per run and a worthless chest! If those can retain value, then I don’t see why silver should be dirt cheap.
All good discussion... I am not offended in any way shape or form... I too would like to see a price for silver that matches the market - IE the point where the buyer is willing to pay X and a seller is willing to sell for X.... Right now its just up in the air, ,, no middleground or price point found … yet...
I am at 10gp per, need 10,000... Might go to 15 if you have all 10k @Lord Sky @merlin8666 @Caramon II
