Due to our hosting company being bought out by Level3 communications they have decided to consolidate their data center locations. In light of this our Virginia data center is now closing. Since we moved to this location it has been a great experience for our american and European players.

We were given the choice of finding a new hosting company or moving to one of the data centers that Level3 is moving everyone to. Given that our current host has provided us with Ironclad DDOS protection and awesome stability we have decided to stick with them despite the move.

They also offered us several months of free services, which given how Renaissance is funded (player donations, benevolence) this is huge for our yearly budget.

So today around 7pm CST (8pm EST, 5pm PST) time we will be moving to our new home in California. To connect immediately after the change you will need to enter the following information into razor.
    play.uorenaissance.com
    or
    199.59.161.210

After a few hours you can resume using login.uorenaissance.com once the DNS changes spread globally.

While the server transitions to the new host we will have a 30 minute server war event, usually at the britain graveyard for players to have a bit of no risk fun. Resources, Ethereals, Rez Gates will be provided for players wishing to join the mayhem. Players who do not want to take part in the event, can immediately log into the new server after about 2 minutes.

Given the change from the east coast to the west coast of america some of our players could see increases/decreases in their connections. Our international players should hopefully only experience a +/- 20ms variance on their connections. We apologize in advance if your connection worsens, and we would have stayed on the east coast if that option was available.

If you experience any connection issues after the chance feel free to contact me (Telamon) on IRC for additional assistance.

Notice: If you are a european or international player and your connection has been impacted please post before and after connection details. This will help us determine if this data center is a long term solution or if we need to look into alternate locations.

Pure ping test for the old and new IPs: 123ms --> 186ms | +63ms.

    RIP.

Just keep in mind we are open to a more positive experience for our European players in the long run. If the new location does not work out for us as a global server we will explore alternative host solutions down the road.

I used to ping 333ms to the last server I played on and it wasn't the best, but it was absolutely playable. I even participated in PvP a lot when I had that high ping. It took a LOT of getting used to, but I was able to make it work.

I don't understand all the my ping is XXXX so I can't play comments. I think they're all simply wrong from my past experience.

Looks like I get 30ms on the old server and 80ms on the new server. This is coming from the Boston area.

Just asking a question - Why make it west end when east and Euro will suffer vs just west would suffer if it was just in the east?

That's 2 suffering vs one side. Someone will have to bite the bullet but it just doesn't add up.

Are you saying that since Black Lotus was bought over they have no East end servers?

He said the options were California or Amsterdam for the same DDoS protection we have now. Seems like a no-brainer for a US run shard.

So when you are a company and you specialize or offer DDoS mitigation for hosted servers you don't only have 1 DC that only has it. LOL

So out of the 257 data centers - http://datacenters.level3.com/north-america/ You can only have DDoS filters on 1 DC? LOLOLOL Why even buy over Black Lotus?

I was literally sharing what he said to us. I don't think this is the thread for trash talk because your entire lives are now ruined by +100ms.

I would rather just point and laugh at you, but I tried to help provide information. Sorry you're upset.

Level3 purchased our old host Black Lotus. They migrated the Black Lotus clients to two locations which will provide the DDOS services. Those locations just happen to be inside Level3 data centers now. (Amsterdam, California) We are still technically a Black Lotus client, just located within the Level 3 data centers/backbone.

As for everyone else give the DNS changes some time, or run direct tests to the IP address. Give it a few days for everyone to settle at the new hosting location and then run some additional tests.

We will evaluate the results and decide if this will work for us long term.
