Again, not trying to stir the pot, but if there's issues and Chris is fixing them, I'd like to help by pointing out things such as this.
@Loxness I don't have an answer for that, but look up other things in the database (boards, ingots, candelabras, anything really) and you'll find a spike that day, and other days throughout history. Chris has probably answered this in the past, as it has been brought up before if you're interested in doing some digging.
I missed it all, but would like to say THANK YOU to the staff and Chris. It's a free game that really works at keeping things even as far as you put the time in you will see rewards. Its a huge job and I am thankful for this game gives me a great way to kill some time =)
@Loxness maybe those spikes are when the bad GM was creating illegal items? this person(s) was on the staff for a year, so maybe they were figuring out how to do it and left data trails in the process. Just a theory.
While hearing of those events is somewhat disheartening because of who it was, sounds like justice was served. I want to say great job solving it and restoring order as best as could be done. Good work nerds for tracking server economy. The RP community here is pretty strong and most of us actually love when PKs crash the end of events. Is that just us orcs? It might be. Even more kudos for the transparency. It's good to have the truth.
Its all good and well to put your hand up for this, Chris... But the player base is also acutely aware of how quickly it was fixed because of how you run the shard also... Now I dont expect you to blow your own horn over that part of the story. We get that. Just remember its not adversity that makes people who they are, its how they handle adversity that does. Youve handled it superbly and this should be focused on. Well done pal.
The same database duplicates are created not only in items counts, but the PVM database logs. Same situation where you will see duplicates of monsters killed (I believe is happens just like Gideon said where the export process fails). Scroll through the linked character log below, a few examples that have happened over time on one of my characters. http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/log/398239/Monster/0/Type_ASC Look at Ancient Wyrm -Actual kills 8, for what ever reason next to that it shows 363 Dasher randomly shows 5 different counts, each varying in count, and no idea what it actually is. Balrons are the same as wyrms. No idea how the counts or numbers are given, but its some sort of export transfer problem.
h4xz0rz!.. That's a pretty extreme measure to take for virtual currency on a player-run server for a game that is 20 years old. We should make "$name The Rat Bastard" statues of them and display them proudly at the Skara Prize Center.
All the new folk jamming this server - proof that this is the best server out. @Cynic - that pink horse is pretty dope
No it is not just you orcs. I completly agree with you Vishakt and it is part of the fun I suppose, as anything can happen, even during a RP-event or during any RP situation, we cannot ignore what happens around us, not even if a 3rd party shows up talking l33t or chopping our heads off, as that is part of the game. @Chris: I am extremely amased over how you handled the whole situation, even if it must hurt a lot, as it must do and will do for some time, as he/her became a close friend after all. You dealt with him/her and the stuff that was created, in the most honorable way. You should have a throphy and a T-shirt as well. Well take 2 T-shirts as then you can always wear one of them while laundring the other.
Just wanted to add my admiration & respect to @Chris, the staff, the player base for the whole situation and the swift resolution with limited effects is very refreshing in today's world. Thank you for UOR!
fantastic to see this level of transparency here. Thank you for making this public and taking corrective action - new (and donating) player
Wow I go MIA for few months. seriously, Thank you so much for all the time, effort and headaches guys. You all did a great job. And thank you Chris.... I will be a bit more active now, can finally see a light at end of tunnel. It's been rather a dark tunnel. Giant friend hugs to all you who dug through the mess and fixed it. Westra
