Well, if you’re jailed it isn’t for no reason as expressed above.

I understand you want to watch a movie while you fish.

Thing is, then you could simply sail the line tracking and killing all the mobs. Same as ElPorno’s mining macro where he dropped the ore to (0,0) then he went back and collected all of it. That is not “no reason”. You just did the shit part afk.

I sell fish steaks, among other food, at my bar near Skara Brae. Theyre quite tasty. Sustainably caught and all too.

    What can be done?

Right now I could run an illegal program to macro fishing collect all the loot and whatnot, and even bypass the anti macro code. There is no "anti macro" code that is going to stop anyone with enough determination. There are plenty of public scripts that can get past the asking a user to identify a few items on the gump, or even showing images of text (using a function to get pixel color at a specific location and an algorithm for determining characters works to evade that. Even @Erlkonig 's grid with coin "pixels" is breakable by finding the gump position, then using color to track the first coin in the top left. Then simply search in a finite distance grid pattern to determine the next coin and it's direction. Once the direction changes by n degrees, mark the first and last and create a vector for that. Repeat to get all the lines and there is a library of computer vision tools that can turn this into text for you. Decoy gumps opening off screen to catch fake answeres from systems like this can also be programmed around. No way to prevent afk macroing.

The point is... right now none of this is made and available to the public. You can't just go to euo's website and download something like this. The anti macro gump uses unique objects compared to other servers, and probably a unique form of decoy gump. These anti macro gumps will stop 99.9% of players here from being able to accomplish this at least until someone does it, and publishes it for everyone to use. Then @Chris can simply change it up a bit or even write some verification that phrases the challenge question using the character id or some unique identifier as a seed to catch the originator of the published macro.

In some sense I agree with you. We let people afk collect bods. Other's buy resourses then afk craft wares to sell or fill bods which equates to afk profit. I can just idle in game all month and get 300k in plat. That's afk profit too right? So what's the point really?

Probably people generally don't like afk bot players and it makes the server look bad. Might also be to keep the market from being flooded with resources and things like AMIBs to new players who traditionally fill the role of gatherers aren't priced out of the market. There's a ton of reasons.

If Chris change mind today and say "ok @Cheapsuit , I agree. You can now afk nonstop 24 hour a day and earn 40k/hour, so like 960k per day (per account!)..... why? Why just create a special trash can in town that you place a fishing rod and a boat in it, then wait 24 hours and it dispenses a 1 mil check to their bank? Then they can log off and shut down their PC while they wait. Is that playing uo? Outcome is the same right and it saves electricity.

    My opinion:

Fishing is already lame. You "basically" are afk anyway when you can watch episode of gilmore girls on netflix and casually check your screen for a gump. You're not in the game world. You contribute to nothing. The only purpose you serve is to give out a murder count if someone manages to find and pk you. Same for ask buyers of regs, the afk scroll makers and sellers (yes it happens here), and all the people getting the AMIBs and never being actually in the real game except for events like @Pirul @Evil Dead and reigning champion @Regina.

There's enough of that stuff on the server and I have even lost all desire to play the past month or more because of sheer lack of fun to be had for people not interested in organized pvp once in a while and pvm.

Remove your fishing gump? No way, how about making you use the pole on the water then wait for a random gump popup that says "A fish has bit, do you want to reel it in?" then have the yes/no checkboxes randomize locations etc so you have to be paying attention to even catch one single fish when it bits... like real life. Also @Mandevu

I plainly said that I was not an afk fisherman, and explained my reasons. But I guess I can't make you believe me, nor will I try.

Even without an incredibly complex macro, a group of players could run a simple casting macro, and one 'captain' could control the boat, loot, etc.

Think about 12 accounts (4 coordinated players) with only one active, and no afk checks. With different time zones this could easily be done 24/7.

    Keep the Gump.

*Edit: better poll questions next time, pls

I respectfully disagree with this. If anything, we should add more anti-afk gumps.

This was a gump'ed activity, unless it's been removed.

Selling items too, can bring up a gump right?

I think most of us who play this shard for UO nostalgia enjoyed the days 20 years ago when it was actually *playing*. Razor unfortunately has turned much of freeshard life into a coding contest, and there are some damn good coders out there. But as long as most people want to "play the game" rather than have a coding contest, the will of the majority will win out and we'll see more gumps rather than less. And the server will be better for it.

It's amazing that people are talking about the probability of 0.1/100 as most of you have admitted that 99.9 people can't make such a macro. If you're at the keyboard, for any of your accounts, you should not be jailed for not looking at another account's screen in time, just to catch that 000.1 person. So 999 people have to be punished in order to try to catch the 1 person out of a thousand. Just madness.

I vote to ban the use of multiple accounts simultaneously. That fixes the possibility of the boogyman. Now how bout that.

Ok then I agree with you. So let's ban afk macroing altogether. Is this also madness?

Is it fair that you should be able to use 3 fisherman accounts and not another person simply because your eyes work better than theirs?

This is preposterous. You can easily check out Kirby's or Ahirman's guides that show how to arrange your window such that you can see all three fishers on one screen. It is stupid easy to avoid the AFK Gump this way. Or don't be so cheap and buy extra monitors if that setup hurts your eyes.
